I'm trying to create a mini-site (not a blog) using Wordpress. This is the second time I've tried to use Wordpress and I hate it and it's driving me nuts.

The site is FreeJobsAdvice[.]com - if you have a look you will see there s nothing there !

My question is : Is there something that is easier to use than Wordpress and that is better for creating mini-sites ?

Thanks for any help.

what kind of mini sites you are looking for to create?

Just a small thing with maybe 4 or 5 pages with information for people looking for jobs - how to write a covering letter, what not to say at interviews etc... - it's a trial run really 'cause I need to learn how to do this stuff, so it's got to be easy but at the same time useful (for me) so that I can do it again - I figure there must be something easier than Wordpress and I suspect that Wordpress is not the best program to be using anyway. :(

Thanks mhdoc - that's what I've been using - it is good but I still find Wordpress annoying - have you created any sites using it ?

I don't think you are going to find anything much easier. Certainly not with as many free guides, templates, etc.

A couple of years ago I went on a weekend frenzy of installing wordpress on a bunch of domains I had accumulated and writing a couple of posts on each one. Then I did other things for a year or so. When I came back to them most had been indexed and a few even had page rank. They were VERY niche domains though.

Since then I have developed a Dreamweaver template that doesn't have all the system overhead and which works better for me. It made a good starting point though.

Well if Wordpress is the easiest then I'll stick with it, I seem to have got a page together of sorts :).

Tony - at the moment I don't really know what I need, - except I want to create something that's more like a site (i.e. static and not requiring updating) and less like a blog and unfortunately I've got to do it myself 'cause I ain't got any dosh to get it done by someone else. What I've put together at the moment - freejobsadvice.com - looks OK I guess, I just need to write a few pages, but I want to be sure it isn't classified as a blog.

it depends. if you study it then it'll be easier. blogger.com/blogspot.com also does host domains for free, you might want to take a look at it.

Wordpress is not hard to use, its one of the simplest ways to make a website.

To make it like a site and not a blog, use PAGES to write your articles, not POSTS.
Pages are static and will not overwrite what is on the front page of your site.

Thanks for all the info. people - I managed to put together a few pages (I intend eventually to hve around 20 pages) at freejobsadvice.com - using pages not posts as longroad suggests above - hopefully that will mean I don't have to constantly update it to get Google to look at it

I should have something for you in about 3 weeks. I dont know how quickly you need it but I'm about to launch a site that will let you one click your way through an entire site builder. Nothing else like it around. If you can wait a couple weeks PM me and I'll give you details. You can test with me on the Beta release.

I found CMS Made Simple very easy to get your head around. www[.]cmsmadesimple[.]org

As longroad suggested, make pages.

It is also great forSEO as you can control meta description and keywords for each page.
