I am putting together this website for a client. I have never had to use a database to hold information for a long period of time. I need usernames and passowords most of all as in registering to our site and then creating profiles.

I am also going to be storing mass amounts of pictures for each of the usernames. I have not had to link this much before. most of my work is in design and then linking but not to databases.

Is there a database that a beginner can learn or use for multiple uses. Or for either of those purposes. I need one for both actually.

I started with Access but was not sure if i really should go that route or not. I need something i will be able very GUI friendly.

Please help. I just need some direction and advice. Thank you very much.

mySQL is free and most Linux host companies definitely support it. Go to http://www.mysql.com to learn more info about it. In general though, to create a website that has profiles that are stored in a database that users can edit and manage along with photo galleries associated with that profile is semi-complicated. If there is money involved in the project, I would highly recommend that you outsource that portion of the project.

*edit: also for your GUI portion, get the program myAdmin for mySQL. It is GUI friendly and runs directly on your server so that you can access your database system anywhere.
