Let's see who can acquire the best .COM hand registration during the month of March? "Best" will be determined by your peers. You have to create it during the month of March 2019. As long as it says created 03-2019 it could have been a name born before that died and lost its age. Let me be clear, for this March contest the name has to be a new DOT COM hand reg that you own.

Here are the rules of this DOT COM HAND REG MARCH 2019 contest:

1. Hand registration during the month of March 2019.
2. You may submit up to 7 domain names. (Each name submitted must have it's OWN Reply post).
3. So if you want to submit 7 names, submit SEVEN separate Reply posts.
4. I am excluding myself from entering the contest, since I am facilitating the event!
5. The Top 20 Finalist will be selected the following way .---> (10) "Likes" entries with the most "Likes" in the thread and (10) Wildcard entries selected by a team of 5 panelist from the NamePros community. The 5 panelist will be announced after month end to avoid mid-month lobbying. Additionally, the 5 panelist (Wildcard pickers) will be be non-participants in the contest to avoid a conflict of interest and will be respected NPros members that have a wealth of experience in domaining. The panelist members will be a familiar lot.
6. The WINNER will be selected by your peers via a TOP 20 POLL from the Top 20 Finalist mentioned above.
7. The TOP 20 POLL will occur at the end of the month. This will be a 72 hour poll.
8. We welcome EVERYONE to participate in selecting the WINNER from the Top 20 Finalist list.
9. In the event of a TIE during with winner polling, the tie-breaker will go to the WINNER with the earlier submission posted to this thread. (a plan to avoid any misunderstand should a tie occur)

TOP 20 Finalist
  • Finalist Pick 10 - those 10 names with the most "likes" make it to the Top 20 (user involvement).
  • Finalist Pick 10 - those 10 names that a panel selects make it to the Top 20 (panel involvement).
  • Top 20 Poll - this involves everyone, but only for a 72 hour window at month end (ALL involvement).

What do you win?

  • Number one, props and recognition here at Namepros.
  • I will personally pay $20 JACKPOT (via PayPal) to the WINNER.
  • Anyone wishing to contribute an additional $0.30 to the Jackpot - contact me via PM - and I will add your contribution on top of the $20 Jackpot I have committed (let's see how large a Jackpot we can build).

* The JACKPOT is now at $200 Total + 1 Efty Growth subscription

Great Job! Just my personal opinion/preference, I will be casting my votes (likes) tonight on 10 domains submitted by other contestants. I cant speak for others, but I think that is the best way to vote on the names. Maybe next month, if there is another contest, each member can have a limited number of likes/votes allowed so that the outcome can be more unanimous. Just a suggestion!

@H Malsawmtluanga -

Thanks for participating in this month's contest. And also thanks for sharing your suggestion. (much appreciated)

My thoughts...

There are trade-offs to either model.
  • "Polling" is efficient with a 1-time event that has the capability to impose a voting limit per member (example - the X votes per member model that you mentioned), but the Polling module is currently designed for only a 1-time event and would become ineffective given new submissions being entered daily during a month long contest. The "Edit" feature becomes disabled after a period of time.
  • "Likes" voting provides direct viewer engagement throughout the month - which is preferred from an OP (Contest Host) perspective. One problem that arises with "Likes" voting over a period of time is that earlier submissions during the month have a longer viewing window and, at any given moment, have a statistically higher average voting record as a result versus submissions just recently entered. It's simply a Voting Window dynamic (viewing duration) issue, not an intended outcome choice.
@H Malsawmtluanga - your suggestion about limiting voting to a limited number per member is an interesting approach - the one limitation that jumps out is that we (as the OP of a thread) are not provided metrics on "Likes" voting from the NamePros platform nor are we provided a per individual voting tally for a contest thread that we create. It's an interesting approach you have proposed, but it might be a manual nightmare for an OP to have to x-check and verify the individual "Likes" count per member for monitoring purposes. Not so bad with only 3-4 pages of posts, but an entirely different story when having to plow through 25+ pages of posts. Been there, done that - this month. Collecting contest metrics is currently a manual process. An automated report would be awesome! But (to my knowledge) is currently not available.

So... How do you blend the (2) available avenues for user feedback in a way that best meets your objective of audience participation and fairness?

This leads to the reasoning of why I provided a "hybrid" (2 phased) approach to selecting a Winner this month. My goals were 1) to provide audience involvement in determining the Winner, and 2) "normalizing" to reduce potential skewing that may occur caused by longer viewing windows for earlier participant submissions.

I do agree that "Likes" voting and audience involvement in the Winner selection process is CRITICAL (at least from my point of view - and is a view I believe is shared by nearly all participating in this thread).

And if all entries were submitted all at once (in one bulk post), then the "Likes" only voting model would be a perfect model.

But since all entries are not physically submitted all at once and are entered over a month long time period, then a "normalizing" or "fairness balance" needs to be considered to help provide timeline independence.

By using the "Likes" voting as a culling vehicle, this allows us to have (1) pared down list for use with the voting model (Poll) that then provides each audience member an equal vote. The Poll module has a selection count feature.

Ultimately - the audience is in control of each phase - the culling & the final Winner selection.

The panelist concept I added as a safety net to ensure any late entry would have a reasonable opportunity to be in the Top 20 Finalist list. (this concept may fade away in future contest but I wanted to beta test it's usefulness this month)

Thanks for raising the topic.

Personally, I too would prefer a 1-tier voting model. But given the "early bird gets a larger viewing worm" dynamic that statistically exists, I wanted to openly share with you (and the entire audience) the reasoning behind why I choose the 2-tier "hybrid" model for selecting the Winner.

-Cougar

ps: This is not to say that I am locked into only the "hybrid" model gong forward, rather the intent of this post is to highlight that I am trying (testing) the "hybrid" model this month and am receptive to shifting gears in the future based on how this plays out. Thank you @H Malsawmtluanga ! Your post was appreciated, useful, and worth bringing forward.

I am all for the 'hybrid model'. I really like the inclusiveness of likes + the expert opinion of panels. I think it covers all the bases. And I agree, limiting the number of valid votes per member would be very difficult to enforce manually. It was merely a personal choice of mine to 'like' 10 domains of other contestants as a representation of my opinion on which domains I think deserve to be the 10 among the Top 20.

You have done a great job, and thanks for taking the time to respond!

Hello All,

I have a question here, what about participants who have received likes but has not given a like to some other participants ?

Regards,

Puneet

What about them?

What is the suggestion?

From my view point, those that are providing "Likes" are being generous with their time and are doing so voluntarily with good intent.

Those that do not, that is their choice.

What I personally am not in favor of is some sort of penalty for those not providing "Likes", or worse a quota requirement by each participant, as that will immediately lead to pointless "Likes" being tossed around to pacify the quota.

That's exactly what happened on BrandBucket's voting system back when you could get Free listings for every 100 votes cast..

@Domains - Wanted

Thanks for asking.

Yes, you are correct. This is a .COM only contest.

The "in king" mention was used as a reference to a .COM domain. Many refer to .COM as "The King of Domains" as in most sales situations the .COM TLD commands a higher sales price than other TLD's..

Thanks again for asking.

Qualifying Queue:

A quick update...

We are currently at Post # 624 (page 25) for qualifying submissions.

It is a manual process of checking each submission against Whois for their Creation Date.

Please check our updated Qualified Entries Chart (aka- Quick Reference Guide) and maybe while there click a couple "Likes" for a few domains that you think are good Hand Regs.

Thank you for participating in the contest.

-Cougar.

ps: If one of your submissions is prior to Post # 624 and is not showing up on the list, please feel free to contact me via DM and we'll work together to research it.
