Got some domains I'm thinking of buying and sell much later at higher values. BUt when I consider the fact that some people handregister names and sell at great profit, I'm like maybe I should go for hand regged names.

what do you think?

of course if you find an neduser for your hanregged name your ROI is possibly going to be much higher than if you buy name from a reseller and sell for the same amount as a handregged name.

if you have the money go for reseler market, with no money at all you can handreg names, the only problem is that nowadays there are only a few good names available for handreg...

I myself started with handregged names and then moved to resellers, because I think it involves too much time spent at registrars homepage to go through names checking their availability...

Agreed with ssamriga.

Also if you are going to hand-reg names, make sure you know what you are hand-regging.

imho it could go either way. Regardless of the fact that good handregged names are getting harder, what matters is the value of the domain to the buyer (end-user, wholesale or otherwise) and how much he/she is willing to pay, regardless of the method of acquisition.

If say, you bought a $50 domain and sold it for $75 after a month, that's "only" 50% but a $25 profit on a faster flip compared to earning a $9 profit from a $9 hand-regged (100% supposedly) domain that took almost a year to sell; so it's all relative.

The idea is to hunt for the bargains. They are available regardless of whether you are spending less than $1 for .info and .cn or over $1 million for a high priced bargain. If you budget your money (and your time) well and find the right bargains then you end up with a collection worth more than you spent for. If you don't know what you are looking for then you will be wasting your money.

Another good skill to master is sales. You don't have to be a good bargain hunter to be a good salesman.

1. if it is a new concept, you can try to hand-reg.
2. if it is not a new concept, you have to trust the collective previous human minds are better than your own brain no matter how smart you are. Even though you could get lucky once a while, it may not make you rich.

maybe combine both ....... keep up with new technology and learn to spot a bargain also learn the trends as well

I agree with evirtual1, it's all about balance.

the truth I hav discovered with domains is that just because millions of people overlooked a domain or refused tor egister it doesn't mean you can get a good deal for it
Like VURG said it's all about being a great bargain gunter/salesman,
I started domaining a couple of months ago with handregged and having made somne money, I'm moving into reselling

I think there is still many great domains to hand reg but it is possibly true that some more common search terms and names are harder to find. The basic thing to remember & keep in mind in this industry is that people only lease a name for in most instances 1 year so when that year is up then it can be yours too.

If you're hand regging, you might want to develop a small site to put up so the domain has more traffic, and as a result, more value.

I've always hand registered domains, but as I've built up more funds, I've been able to purchase names and bring back an even greater return.

imo, if you are into domain parking, purchase is better, since it is harder to find handregged domain which could give more than 100 unique view per month nowadays:P

I think you should hand reg names that you find intriguing and are possible sales. And buy names from resellers that you think you can find an end user for.
