GRRR.. video card!

I got my new AGP card and the bracket is too big for the current slot and tho it comes with a smaller bracket, there's no place on the smaller bracket for the d-sub socket, just the TV out and DVI. I also have no idea how to change the bracket in any case.

I imagine the d-sub cable could be extended (about 8" or so, means a new cable unless the one in the comp will reach) to the current d-sub location, but looks like I'll have to resort to Radio Shack and hopefully they won't charge me an arm and a leg to install this. GRRR!

Life sucks today (have to work tonight).

Wow that sucks...

It seems that computers are the cause of most of our problems these days :td:

What is the d-sub socket for on the video card?

It's the standard connection for the monitor.. shaped like a "D", hence the name.

The card has a round s-video connection and the DVI connector, then a cable running to the d-sub connector also on the long bracket.

My computer has a thin case and requires a short bracket.

The card came with an extra bracket but the bracket doesn't include a breakout for the d-sub connector so I expect I'll need an additional bracket for the d-sub. I opened the case and there's no way (I can see anyway) to run the cable from the card to the original d-sub onboard.

Ah, I see. I'm used to the ATI cards I guess. They have a DVI that doubles as a regular monitor plug via a converter. Can you cut the bracket to get it to fit?

Nah.. and my new RAM should be here in a few days.. I'll most likely wait and install that first to see how that affects performance, then later on get some help in installing the card.. may have to go out of town as Carthage has just the Radio Shack and one guy "downtown". Not much to choose from.

I know the feeling, not exactly tech central here. Radio Shack, Staples and as you said, a guy downtown. Gonna have to be getting a new video card soon. Mine is on it's last legs...
