Grr.. I Got PWNED..

Somehow I managed to download an email / keylogger virus and someone managed to gain access to my eBay account and locked me out. Had to reformat my drive so I'm in the process of trying to repair the "damage"..

Probably be a few days before things get back to a semi-normal state!

Got my ebay and paypal sorted out.. in the process of going around and changing my PW's. Have to spend time getting everything re-installed, ugh!

still not sure how I got it.. I started noticing my comp was running an hour slow at times, then my anto-kelogger app flagged IE as "suspicious". I ran a virus check and svchost was infected and couldn't be cleaned or deleted so to be safe, I moved all my files to an external drive and did a destructive recovery on my C drive then did another scan. At about the same time I got emails from eBay and PayPal both reporting their suspicion my accounts had been compromised.

When I tried to login to PayPal, I had to re-confirm my identity and couldn't log back into eBay at all as the slug had changed everything. Had to contact eBay thru Live Chat and they got it squared away after a few anxious moments (hadn't updated some details on my profile and couldn't recall an old phone #).

A buddy of mine was over earlier and saw how stressed I was so kindly got my internet back online (Norton defaults to blocking internet access AND the Windows firewall was doing the same thing!)

We went to see Resident Evil: Extinction.. came back here and I've been re-installing ever since.

Do you have a firewall installed Dave? Firewalls are great against key loggers because they restrict their access to the internet, effectively disabling the key loggers.

I had an actual anti-kelogging prog installed that warned me but I couldn't make sense of the warning, just said IE was acting suspiciously so stupidly I thought it was a false flag. Next time I'll know better.

Ouch...Sorry to hear about your computer issues.

But glad you were able to smooth things out and was able to re install your computer. It happens to the best of us. Just glad that you made it out without having to get a complete new computer and not able to recover your ebay and paypal accts.
