How does this pertain, specifically, for the .MOBI? I mean, if the .MOBI falls off the face of the earth in 1 1/2 - 2 years+/-, GPS mapping will still be used significantly in an increasingly mobile connected .COM world, correct?
jeff, the mobile internet just doesn't work well, despite all the coding schemes, re-directs and techhy "deepfish" solutions, the mobile net works like crap, it's slow, hard to read, poorly designed and expensive
mobi is a hail-mary pass attempt to get this thing back on track and install a lowest-common denominator approach to making websites work on mobile phones and it respects the end user by demanding that sites are simple, clean and fast
it's the _best_ way to make it happen in my opinion
but you are certainly correct, it is not the only way
honestly, i have become a mobi supporter out of desperation
with 2000 phones, umpteen browsers, java, flash etc etc .... i would say this, if dot com sites have a real answer that will work _tommorow_ (mobi is working ....now) then lets see it ....
let's cut the talk and make the net work from the smallest slowest phone up to the fastest, let's see it work on tiny screens and big screens and on _all_ phones
whatever you want to say about mobi, it is at least setting out a path by which we can get this done
i say this with respect for all differing views including yours
