I don't think Google+ Pages can replace full-blown websites that run on Joomla, Wordpress, or those with elaborate internet database infrastructures. And these websites would need domain names.

Unless this Google "Direct Connect" will replace the DNS system and divert all "+" lookups directly to the hosting provider's IP address thus bypassing the domain name altogether???

What i understand is that these Google+ Pages will serve like "doorways" (or landing page), similar to a Twitter account created just to tell people to click the URL of the real domain name of the entity who owns that Twitter account.

I don't even think those Facebook pages created by famous brands, can replace their real websites. They're just landing pages. These Facebook pages, they all look the same. The scrolling Wall is not very efficient. You can only scroll so much. You'll get tired scrolling after 3 minutes, you'll give up reading Wall posts further.
