Hey Guys,

I have two questions:

1) How well does .tv rank? I'm currently developing http://premiumthemes.tv but I'm thinking it might not be the best domain for search engine ranking... should I try to find a .net or .com? Any input?

2) Why does google ask if I'm searching for "http://premiumthemes.tv/ (note: italics .tv) when I'm searching fro "http://premiumthemes.tv/"?

Thanks for your help :)

NVM Question #2, figured it out. Its showing a different search result and is asking if I really want to search for http://premiumthemes.tv, thats why its showing in italics.

.tv ranks very well

If your going after search results that are attainable you will get there.
It takes a long time to rank for "popular" search terms and a good way of checking to see if you have a chance at ranking for those "popular" particular keywords is do the following.

Go to:
1/ Google Adwords Keyword Tool and check to see how many times a month the keywords you are trying to rank for are searched.
eg. The term "premium themes" has only 1000 exact searches a month, so picking better keywords would be a better option IMO.

2/ Google.com - type in the keywords and see what the top ten sites are.

3/ check those top 10 urls in http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/
(Copy the exact url into the search area and click "explore url")
You will then see how many backlinks that site has from other sites.

Remember that the basis for Google SEO is how many people link to the site. This is called backlinks and the more "quality backlinks" your site has the higer it ranks.. (There is obviously a lot more to how the Google algo works, but IMHO this is the foundation of ranking a site.)

Best of luck with your SEO.

Hi there,

The latest 'top 1000' sites report contains only 7/1000 sites being .tv's

http://forums.do/1000sites.php

This doesn't necessarily mean .tv's are much less weighty in google though. If you've got a nice keyword domain, that's taken in .com and .net, another extension is ok.

It's always good to check however if the .com .net are already developed, if they are, you might be better off finding a domain that contains exact keywords with sites that are not currently developed under .com and .net (if the domains are registered).

My 2c,
Rhett.

It does seem to take longer to rank a .TV domain than a .Net or .COM but of my three highest-traffic sites, only one ranks on page one of Google for its primary keyword/s and 90%+ of traffic for those sites come from longtail or other search phrases.

The only tv domain I've ever seen in google search is http://www.eurovision.tv/.

But I think I'll use a com, might continue to develop this domain as well and compare the two, will be interesting.

Thanks for the input :)
