This latest offering is very compelling - Free Domain, Free Privacy, Integration with Google Apps, web development tools, and a whole bunch of other stuff like hosted emails, etc. tells me that Google Domains is serious. In addition, their check out process is surely going to be streamlined and not have 4-5 layers of up sells and cross sells for hosting, privacy, email, ssl and whatever else they can throw into the mix. I'm also sure that this drive for new domain registrations is likely to have a small business customer focus, as more than 50% of small business still do not have a website, which will provide great long term revenue potential, and also acts as a gateway to their other high profits businesses, such as AdWords.
The real question is - how serious is Google Domains? Is this just another one of their experiments to see if they'll win big by continually chipping away and displacing their competition, will they make acquisitions, or will it be sold off or just die on the vine...

For me it would take a lot for me to change. I was viewing it to see what all they really offer and honestly it is not that impressive to me. I would stay where I have been for 10 years. I use Dynadot and have always like their singular focus and easy to use panel.

For me. I like the offering, but what are the renewal prices like. What is their Control Panel like.

i agree. it depends on prices... UI... etc..
BUT... google has money and power to offer more than competitive prices.
more thna average ui! let's not forget that!

either way, I'm prety much sold on everything google does.. I find it beautiful and well done. like an internet based work of art. so I have a bit of hard time imagining how they could come up with something new, that'd be of poor quality.

can't wait for it all to come to canada.

I want to see what the final product is going to be like. I will reserve final judgement until then.

Free beats Dynadot for year 1 only. But if they recover that loss over the next 2 years, I'd probably stick with Dynadot for the long haul.

For me. I thought Dynadot's control panel was a medium learning curve when I moved from GoDaddy. But not overly complicated. I like the flexibility. For example. Most registrars have privacy/no privacy. But Dynadot has an intermediate step, where you can put some of your own text in the Privacy Statement in the Whois. Which I use to point to my Domain Sales website. Very Cool. I haven't really researched that. But I think they are the only registrar which offers it.

They should model their interface after Uniregistry, especially since they will be selling GTLDs.

I hope it turns out more like Uniregistry and less like the Google+ launch. They still benefited from their Google+ launch but it wasn't the "Facebook Killer" that some people might have anticipated.

I agree. I began using Dynadot in 2004 and have to say in comparison to other control panels I have used I prefer theirs. I really hated GoDaddy's system.

I haven't tried Uniregistry myself. I would take a domain for a year from Google for free though if I could ever get their website to work for me.

I always felt I was running against the pack because I actually really liked GoDaddy's Control Panel. But I've found an ideal partner with Dynadot. I really like their CP (maybe a tad less than GoDaddy's) and their support is first class. IMHO. I would never go back.

I've always found the Google interface to be a tad quirky. Difficult to actually get to a real person. Their help files are usually very good also, until you need a real person. I had a dreadful experience when setting up their Google Cloud Service, for example. I still haven't been able to download anything from their Cloud, yet.

Of the two companies, Google and Uniregistry. I'd prefer Uniregistry, even if I haven't even seen Google's CP yet :)

I actually run counter to your thoughts of GoDaddy. I found their system cumbersome and loaded with to much other things that distract you. I also absolutely hate their order system. By the time they got done asking me if I wanted to purchase other services I think I had a stroke. I know that they are trying to upsell and that makes sense, but it is one thing to upsell it is another to completely annoy your customers.

@Altrell - I was talking about GoDaddy's Control Panel, not their Checkout. That did drive me to distraction, at times,

LOL yea got sidetracked it was all in on GoDaddy on that one. However, I still found their control panel cumbersome. I think that is whay I like DynaDots straight forward simplistic approach.
