Google Knol - The end of the humble article site?

So Google just launched a beta of Knol (http://knol.google.com/), their site to compete with Wikipedia.

I had a look at it, and it just looks like most of the higher-end article sites.

I personally don't think it looks like it will be able to compete with Wikipedia, but I think we can say goodbye to the humble article site.

What do you think?

Woah they are high quality articles! It will compete with Wikipedia, who will win I dont know. I reckon Google will try and buy Wikipedia.

Yeah they are high quality articles, written by highly qualified people. But I think it lacks the structure of Wikipedia. Goodluck to them but I don't think it is quite as good.

I quite like it, and as it is very new I may try and write a few articles for it :)

the articles and how to's posted on knol are of high-quality but it won't replace Wikipedia i think supplementary reading

I wonder if Google will ever buy Knol.com If they do I would estimate about low - mid $x,xxx, xxx because they say on their site that they will not sell.

Personally, I don't think any site has a chance of catching up to Wikipedia.

It does look good on first glance. I've already noticed one "domainer" who has written as an expert on 10 different topics. So I fully expect more of the same.
In fact I will give it a whirl, I'm a writer, and there's bound to be a handful of topics I can write about that would connect with some of my sites.
