I guess I was a tiny bit late at discovering knol, but to me it seems like a great idea from google. Anyway I registered a few knol related domain names and as I was doing that I discovered that a lot of good keywords were already taken!

Anyway, looks like theres quite a few people here who have registered some "knol" names, so I'm hoping some of you would like to showcase them. Or at least say how many you registered.

Heres a few of mine:

seoknol.com

shareknol.com

pureknol.com

lawknol.com

NOTE: Heres a list of available KNOL related domains

Lets see your lists!

No one seemed to be taking notice of my TM concerns so I thought what the hey - as long as I am not considered an accessory!

The Guidelines for Third Party Use of Google Brand Features are fairly specific. See especially the Rules for Proper Usage. I've written to ask for further clarification, specifically regarding registering new domain names. We'll see what they say.

However, one thing they stipulate is that brand terms like "knol" cannot be used as a noun or verb. Only as an adjective. So the top 58 in BlazeD's list should be okay. The bottom 72, however, use knol more-or-less as a noun and might be prohibited.

Well... to be fair, some of us are just trying to figure this out. When does searching for good keywords to reg cross ethical lines? If it were already clear to everyone, few would do it, imho.

Look at AdSenseBits.com and KNOLstuff.com. Do these count as "cybersquatters"? This is not a rhetorical question. I'm genuinely unsure.

I wouldn't worry about registering common keywords. 99% of them are in the dictionary and cannot be registered. If knol was knowledge instead of knol, there would be nothing wrong with registering words like superknowledge, knowledgemasters, knowledgemembers, knowledgesearch etc.., the problem is that knol is not in the dictionary and thus can be trademarked.

As to your second question about "cybersquatting" I don't think that anyone here is being unethical or cybersquatting. Google never had a TM next to the word knol or spoke about applying for one in their press release...and...it wasn't until a few days ago that the notice appeared at the trademark office that an applicatioin was submitted (different from being approved). Cybersquatting is usually preventing another company from using their exact name or holding it as ransom. Knol.com and several other knols have already been registered and unrelated to googles knol. Unless you've developed a site about Google, your knol might acutally be infringing on the vacuum cleaner site or the farm site or countless others. It's not neccessarily competing with Google if it's just in parking with unrelated keywords.

Again...I'm not an attorney so please don't take my two cents worth as law.

Personally I'm not too worried about getting done for TM or whatnot. I don't plan on developing any of the sites, just parking and maybe selling or whatever. At the moment no one really knows how google will go with this. Maybe they will have TM but might not really be too bothered with people promoting their tool as long as it doesn't infringe or adversely affect them.

As I said before I've seen thousands of TM'd names reg'd and parked and making money from clicks - and the TM holders haven't really cared to go after them. So who knows!

I'm holding onto the names I reg'd mostly .info's so not much to loose anyway. The .com's I have, I might let couple of them go, but will keep 2-3 and see how it goes.

Btw. Has the TM they filed even been approved? Not that it matters, I'm sure it will be at some point. Maybe google will shed some light on this on their blogs soon. So we'll see.

Each will need to conduct business to their own ethical standards, but keep in mind that reputation (professionalism and integrity) counts. Regarding questions by new domainers about trademarks and domains, do a quick scan of the "Legal Issues & Disputes" area. There are many threads and external websites addressing similar concerns.
