What is everyone's opinions?
Is it possible for people with paypal accounts to send money to a google checkout account? Right now i'm on paypal but i'm interested in joining google because of the removal of fees for a payment transfer.

The problem with Google Checkout is that it is not widely supported yet.

Actually thats not quite true, it's growing in popularity and is being used on quite a lot of sites, dont ask me to name any because i cant remember them all but i'm pretty sure a few registrars take them.

Paypal is probably the better option but there seems to be a rise the past few months in complaints about them, I can see google checkout doing very well and cometh the day it gets as big as paypal I would most likely consider switching, google certainly know how to run a business.

EDIT: most of the time lol

Never try google checkout.
Paypal is very good and safe.

Unfortunately, Google Checkout is open only for sellers from US and UK.
Paypal is open for more than a hundred of countries.

Paypal is very versatile(with the people you need to pay), and its quality is proven. Google checkout from my knowledge isn't very versatile, and i dunno if you can pay "with an email address" as paypal allows.

I havent used it yet, so I am sorry I cant give a first hand experience, however it seems more restrictive than Paypal at the moment.

As far as I know, no.

I am currently integrating Paypal into my employer's site, with eyes on Google Checkout next. They are very similar, but with one big difference. Paypal transactions can be completed on the merchant's site (using auth/capture) but Google Checkout transactions are only completed on Google's site. This is a big deal for us, because we need customers to come back to our site after verifying their payment, so we can continue to process the order in our own system.

Let me know if you have any specific implementation questions about Paypal, or to a lesser extent Google Checkout. A post in one of the programming or website development forums would be best.

Google Checkout does not share the customer's credit card number with merchants. Some buyers use Google Checkout so they can avoid giving their credit card number to unknown merchants.

As for me i use paypal its secure and good, i think google checkout is not as widely used as paypal. As for paying money from paypal accounts to a google checkout account, to my own knowledge i think no.

Neither does Paypal or am I missing something?

You are correct Jido, neither does Paypal.

As far as i know Paypal does not share credit card numbers

Paypal is now also implemented in 2checkout's processing system so the vendors of 2checkout are now able to collect payment from Paypal too because many people specially in USA prefer to pay via Paypal and this is a plus point.

Wow, that was worded poorly. Sorry guys.
Should have been / meant to say that Google processes transactions on their site only. And with Paypal it's possible to process the order on your site. Where from the buyers point of view, processing would be leaving your site to go to the payment processor to pay.

I was implying something in my original statement that Google doesn't even open up the door for, thus allowing buyers additional layers of protection from unscrupulous merchants or poorly protected databases.

Well that is fine, but if I am an unscrupulous Paypal merchant do I get a chance to see the customer's bank or CC details? Any scare story for us here?

Hi guys,

Another big minus is that with google you can sell services but they don't have recurring payment options...I am using it right now(because it is a free merchant account until end of this year) but having around 20 clients whom i have to charge on a monthly basis it is a P.I.T.A

I talked to Google a couple months ago and they said" it is not an option right now, but it will be implemented"....yeah, right.....

The only reason for me not using paypal (who offers recurring payments) was, if you have problems whatsoever(dispute, fraudulent clients etc) they lock your account.....sometimes for months :(

Just thought to share :)

Happy Thanks Giving,

Frank
