What do you think of Google Checkout?

Do you think it is better than PayPal?

Do you think PayPal will be hurt as a result of Google Checkout?

Do you think that eBay will ever receive some competition?

I have personally never used checkout as I live in the UK and as far as I am aware not available for UK customers yet.

I sincerely hope google do make an impact as it would increase competition which can only be good for the consumer, paypal has in effect got a monopoly on the market (i know there are others but nothing that makes that much of an impact). If anyone can make an impact it is google as they are quite highly trusted.

What would you think of having google compete with eBay and come up with their own auction system?

P.S. you do realize that eBay does not allow google checkout as a payment option.

Also Google Checkout cannot be used for payment for services- only for physical merchandise.

Google checkout is very different than Paypal. You can't really compare the two.

I think google would be better off partnering with an already established auction system that has a decent infrastructure already set up. Putting their name and partnering with another system would get that system alot of users and it would grow from there.

This is not really that surprising. Paypal as far as I am aware is the only online payment system that ebay officially support. It would be highly unlikely they would openly support a competitor payment gateway.

It is not necessarily safe to use paypal to pay for services anyway. And I should imagine it would have been the same with google checkout. If the service provider withdraws the service you have no way to get the money back.

I think that the reason why google checkout does not allow payment for services is because they are not trying to directly compete with paypal, although I would imagine that Google checkout has got to hurt paypal.

Google is partners with eBay. eBay is powered by Google ads and eBay advertises heavily on Google.

Regarding a Google Auction system- google would need their own domain name- i.e. Gbid.com

Would be cool if google bought Auction.com and developed it into an auction site- and then integrates it with google checkout.

Any thoughts on this?

You cant take Google checkout as 100% payment system because you cant pay for services or you cant to account to account transactions. I hope in future they will do it. At least those 1000's of Adsense , AdWord users could use it to transfer money. as
AdSense <-> AdWord <-> Website/clients
