Google ban

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Looks like my site myi.org just got banned from google - was getting ~800 uniques from them a day (~90% of my traffic/income) but this morning had disappeared from their listings.

I'm guessing it was due to a lack of original content but I have no idea. The site's a sports news site that gets its content from RSS feeds through a script I bought - which apparently was google friendly :'(

Anyone know what I've done to break the rules? I know the site isn't the greatest but I don't really know what I've done wrong or how to fix it..

Thanks

Simon

Without going too far into your site I see two major problems that would make the Google unhappy.
Two of their policies regarding ads have been broken:

1)
Up to three ad units may be displayed on each Web site page.

I count four.

2)
Publishers may not label the ads with text other than "sponsored links" or "advertisements." This includes any text directly above our ads that could be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads.
Web pages may not include incentives of any kind for users to click on ads. This includes encouraging users to click on the ads or to visit the advertisers' sites as well as drawing any undue attention to the ads. For example, your site cannot contain phrases such as "click here," "support us," "visit these links," or other similar language that could apply to any ad, regardless of content.

Directly above one of your ad units you have the following:

"Click to see myi.org - Sports News"

If your site is no longer listed but your adsense account is still intact you may want to fix these before you are banned from adsense also.

I count 3 ad units and 1 link unit:

A single link unit may be placed on each Web site page, in addition to the ad units and search boxes specified above.

Not sure about the text above it, hadn't noticed it before + it does seem dodgy but was included in the script template - will remove it now..

Maybe it is due to duplicate content.

Not ads thing.

I stand corrected.

Doing a search on google for your site it appears it is not banned but simply not indexing. I'm no SEO expert but my novice guess is there is little original content outside the feeds and too many links per page. Hopefully someone with SEO expertise can comment.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)
Was just a bit of a shock this morning - used to have 60+ pages indexed and now 0 :(

You have duplicate content thats why?

I think it's obvious -- if your site has no original content, then chances are, Google won't mess with it. Google doesn't do much with duplicate content, so it's no wonder they started ignoring it.

Can I asked was your listing pulled, or did you adsense account get blocked?

Listing pulled - adsense is fine.

Well I guessed that that was the problem but there are thousands of similar sites still listed in google so I wondered why mine in particular was banned - was I just unlucky, are google cracking down, or was there some other reason?

Anyway, I'll get around to changing it at some point and see if I can get it relisted..

I could be totally wrong here but :

It looks like you are using Google RSS feeds. It appears that your site is a commercial one. Part of the TOS for using the Google RSS feed is that your site is noncommercial in nature :

"The Google Services are made available for your personal, non-commercial use only. You may not use the Google Services to sell a product or service, or to increase traffic to your Web site for commercial reasons, such as advertising sales. You may not take the results from a Google search and reformat and display them, or mirror the Google home page or results pages on your Web site. You may not "meta-search" Google. If you want to make commercial use of the Google Services, you must enter into an agreement with Google to do so in advance. Please contact us for more information. "

So my guess might be they are cracking down on those RSS only feed sites, particularly one using Google's RSS feed along with Google Adsense (breaking both TOS agreements).

Again, just my guess... :td:

Interesting... I guess that it could be interpreted like that in which case there are a lot of sites breaking these rules.. I had assumed that it was okay to use them as long as you weren't charging people to access your site. If this is the case then I guess the problem is pretty easily fixed by not using google feeds..

Anyway, I've decided to go back to parking at 1plus to see if I can get reindexed and then maybe sometime in the future I'll make an effort and put up a content rich site :)

Sorry for my ignorance, how do you know a site is not indexing versus a ban?

There are a few things to try when determining whether your site is banned. The very first is to see if any results from your site are returned when typing your URL into the google search box. In your case there is at least one page indexed.

If a site is banned there will not be any indexed pages.

There a few things you could try to see if a non-indexed site is banned or not.
**However I do not think these work at the present.**
One way was to type your full URL into the search box.If it is not indexed the results page will say

Sorry, no information is available for the URL "www.yourdomain.com"

1)If your site is NOT banned by google it will then give you a link to click to go to the site. "If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by clicking on the following link: www.yourdomain.com"

2)If your site was banned by google it would not show this.

Your site was NOT banned
Googlebot last successfully accessed your home page on Aug 30, 2006 .
Your backlinks are still recognized by Googlebot
Verify -> http://www.google.com/search?as_lq=www.myi.org&btnG=Search

I suspect that you have a backlink to a Google banned website and I found out this site where you are linking

Verify -> http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=site:www.zolera.com

and your site got affected by imposing penalization

I'm sure you now know what the next steps to do.

Not sure if i did correctly, but just entering a gribberish domain, i do not get a link to go to the site:

Your search - adsadsadsadsa4wtrehfrgvfhfefdsafdsf.com - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:
Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
Try different keywords.
Try more general keywords.

Exactly!- as i said this method of determining banned status does not currently seem to work.
The example with zolera .com site is a good example. It shows up as banned if you were to use this method yet has a pr6 rating. The link to the searched site does not seem to exist any longer.

My site appears and disappears daily...

One day I have hundreds of pages indexed, the other, just 2 or 3.

How do you check hundreds of sites? Is there some bulk check tool??
