Makes Murdoch's MySpace buy look like a sweet deal, doesn't it?

"The partnerships will allow YouTube and Google Video users to watch music videos and other media for free, with advertising revenue to be shared between the video site and the content's copyright owner."

Interesting..so if you uploaded a video that you recorded yourself then you could get a portion of the revenue on adsense? Or is that just for music videos?

I presume they are talking more of the copyrighted material.

I thought myspace.com would be worth more than youtube.com

Might as well, they've already ruined it by making it open to everyone :P.

So the answer is YES. If I make a video and upload it to youtube...it's my copyright. And supposedly Google will revenue share with you. It's a smart move and all those top watched video blogs can become very wealthy now. Oh I am jealous. Do you wonder if that fakegirl21 (can't remember her name) was financed by Google as a test?

Actually they changed their Terms Of Service a while back stating that when you upload a video you give up your rights to that video.

Oh really? I wasn't aware of that. I have not uploaded any videos to them..I may have to reconsider doing so. Although one way around it is to have a site with the videos where others would add your copyrighted videos to Youtube. You would not be giving up your rights to the videos in such a case.

Just double checked you do not completely hand over copyright BUT you give youtube royalty free access to do anything they wish with it :-

However, by submitting the User Submissions to YouTube, you hereby grant YouTube a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the User Submissions in connection with the YouTube Website and YouTube's (and its successor's) business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the YouTube Website (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels. You also hereby grant each user of the YouTube Website a non-exclusive license to access your User Submissions through the Website, and to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display and perform such User Submissions as permitted through the functionality of the Website and under these Terms of Service. The foregoing license granted by you terminates once you remove or delete a User Submission from the YouTube Website.
