Hi

3 years ago I bought a .am domain through Godaddy.

Its been auto renewing on December 1st each year even though it was registered the last weekend of January. They state in their terms, certain ccTLds will be renewed at the 1st of the previous month to ensure they don't expire.

I do not need the domain anymore and was wondering if I'm entitled to a refund.

Their refund policy states .am domains will not receive a refund upon cancellation after registration. I have two clearly separate invoices one for .am domain registration and one for .am renewal.

The invoice I tried to get refunded is the .am renewal. Godaddys refund policy says auto renewals can be refunded upto 45 days after the domain is due to expire and my domain was due to expire 4 days ago. After speaking with Godaddys support they gave me a link to amnic and said the amnic registry do not offer grace periods for registrations so Godaddy will not give me a refund if I cancel the .am domain.

Is this what they state in their terms. If it is then I am ok with not getting a refund but when I asked Godaddy on Facebook about getting a refund they just sent me a link to their refund policy and didnt say anything about amnic.

Sorry about the long post, thanks for any help.

I have no personal experience on this issue. And I haven't gone and searched their ToS.

My take on what GoDaddy said above, is they "will refund up to 45 days before expiry" but not refund if there are less than 45 days before expiry. That's how I read it. But that statement wasn't applying to .am domains

You must have been talking to an idiot at GoDaddy. Grace Period Deletions only apply to newly registered domains, afaik. But what GoDaddy stated for about .am domains was "will not receive a refund upon cancellation after registration". That seems quite clear to me.

There is quite a lot of duality going on with GoDaddy's language above, however. Enough that it could be construed either way. But if they are telling you, you won't get a refund. So even if you manage to clarify the language in their ToS, you probably are not going to get a refund. Accept it and move on.
