GoDaddy's Groupon screwup

So I guess everyone has had their store credit reversed. My first $70 for $25 code is all that remains.

Was buying from multiple cities and applying to one GoDaddy account considered an illicit gaming of the system? No. Groupon allowed purchases from multiple cities by one account. GoDaddy allowed multiple codes to be applied to a single account. The one per account limit appeared to be one Groupon city per account.

We can also look at Groupon's procedure for dealing with restaurant chains. Want a Groupon for the same restaurant chain in two nearby cities? That's allowed.

Another thing is this previous Groupon: http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-godaddy-domain
Back in November GoDaddy offered $20 store credit for $10.

I don't think that was an individual city offer, but you can't tell me people weren't using multiple Groupon accounts/cards/whatever to buy more than one and apply them to a single GoDaddy account. You KNOW that was happening..... Yet GoDaddy (knowing what was about to happen) took no steps to deny more than one code during this latest promo.

All indications were that everyone involved knew what was going on and it was good to go.

I urge everyone to complain to Groupon on Monday morning. Be professional about it. Talk about how you thought it was limited to one per city and how GoDaddy was accepting these codes into the same account.

IF anything good can come of this for us, it's going to have to be through pressure from Groupon.

Anything bought with the first Groupon seems to be fine.

The purchases with store credit from additional Groupons are being placed on hold until you agree to a regular form of payment.

I just used some 99 cent codes so I haven't gone beyond the first Groupon, but I had $1,000 in Groupon store credit taken away. What I'm really ticked over is the time it took to buy all of that. Most of it was the $30 for $10 coupon, so we're talking a whole evening finding the Groupon cities with the deal, buying them and then applying the codes. Plus I was running each Groupon purchase through MrRebates, so that's even more time.

Godaddy HATES domainers when it comes to loss leader products.

They realize that they're going to have to eat it with us on those .99 cent coupon codes, with the hopes that it reels in enough non-domainer customers who (auto)renew indefinitely at the full retail rate to offset us and hopefully, turn profit.

I have to admit I was tempted with the Groupon thing but refrained, simply because the Godaddy TOS is written in such a way that they can seriously smack down account holders at their whim and you'd have to have to sue them to get a chance at relief. There was no doubt this was in error, that they had made an operation mistake. Companies don't give away gobs of free money like that.

Thankfully, they're just undoing the coupons but if I were the CEO of Godaddy, from a business perspective, the Groupon stackers are a pretty damn good hit list of the accounts you're losing the most money on with loss leader products. Glad I'm not on it.

the terms I saw mentioned "Limit 1 per person."

I guess the argument will be whether an Atlanta offer and a Chicago offer are the same thing, or are two different things.

Since both offers were identical and both were purchased on groupon.com, I can see the "same thing" argument.

Call the wahbulance. Godaddy could give two rats about your business. Lets all be honest. Slickdealers are the worst type of customers, they make nothing from us. Probably happy to get rid of the "loss accounts".

Just suck it up and be happy you even got the $25 for $70 promo. B-)
