I thought to myself today... "GoDaddy" is such an awful name for a business. It says nothing about what the product is, and it just sounds plain creepy.

As it turns out...

"The one thing we knew for sure was that no one would remember a name like Jomax Technologies. So we decided to dig in and try to come up with a better name. We worked for about a week and came up with nothing we liked. Then one day our new name literally fell out of the sky. Barbara Rechterman (my right hand person to this very day) and I were in my office. Someone said "How about Big Daddy?" A quick check revealed that it was taken. Then I said "How about Go Daddy?" And by golly, the name was available, so we bought it. "
- Bob Parsons, Founder of GoDaddy

GoDaddy is a domain empire, built on a hand reg. Fun fact of the day.

Oh yes, I forgot. They were known for their tax software.

Bob Parsons told this story at DomainFest a couple of years ago when he was the Guest Speaker there. He had some pretty interesting things to say, and stories too.

Godaddy is a silly name. Only when you look it up do you see that there is a huge company behind it. A lot of internet companies have names like these. Google and Yahoo are both very silly and childish names. I suppose it's how people roll on the web - "We are going to go our own way without any regard for your old fashioned sensibilities!"

I feel sorry for namecheap because they are stuck with the negative connotation of "cheap" in their name even though they are no longer particularly cheap.

Another one is internet.bs. That's like internet bullshit!

Somehow, I don't believe anyone at Godaddy is breaking into a sweat that some people don't like their name.
And while you don't like their name, they are making more money in one day than you probably make in a few years.

Go Daddy sounds good. You don't always need to be keyword oriented like "Go Webnames", a handreg.
And if someone has a problem with that name because it hasn't got the business keyword, what would you say about DeBeers and McDonalds. Children who haven't seen a MacD restaurant would probably associate that name with Donald Duck. :)

Rumor has it that some men are relunctant to use godaddy, because they fear the charges on their credit card statements would look like porn-related expenses to their wives :)

The key to a great domain name is does it pass the radio test and easy to remember which is short and simple. What type of business is going to be built and does it need an exact domain name or something short and catchy?

Large corporations will actually purchase exact match product domains and forward it onto their business domain.

Choose domains or hand register domains that you can build businesses on as these will be more attractive to someone who is looking to start up a business or rebrand or add to their current domain.

Best of luck my friends
