GoDaddy removed the auction for RapeKids.com on their platform today. Lance @tldn had tweeted @WTFdomains with a link to the auction, @DNUpdate retweeted it with a message and Noah Plumb who has the super cool handle of @No took care of the situation. That’s not right. We took it down and are looking into how it happened so it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for keeping us in check — Noah Plumb [Read more...]

Exactly, Sedo needs to follow as the name is for sale there, buy it now $95.

Doesn't this sort of horrible domain name ever need to be pre-approved (disapproved) or screened out before being listed on auction?

Do you know what's funny I tried to add the domain name Deuces.net to Sedo and they would not allow it, http://tldinvestors.com/2017/06/so-let-me-get-this-straight.html

Wow. Someone needs to be made aware of that especially on reseller platforms.

As you mention that, I was watching the drops a couple days ago, and this one was picked immediately
up using an automated drop catcher:

I reported "RapeKids.com" to godaddy. A while ago I also reported "GasTheJews.com" to them as well.

In my opinion there is a huge difference between "Rape" and "RapeKids". I'd actually be inclined not to remove "Rape" because it isn't necessarily a clear call to action like RapeKids or GasTheJews. One could conceivable have a legitimate help/info website at "Rape.com" (or any other TLD), so in most cases unless there is a clear call to action, the domain is probably ok.

The really interesting question is if a domain name is considered a potential medium where hate speech laws apply.

I have yet to receive a reply for this domain, but for the previous domain this was the reply I received:

"Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We’ve informed the appropriate parties here so further action may be taken accordingly. As you’ve mentioned, we do have many filters in place, but technology is never infallible. We appreciate your understanding."

I did ask for further information on their policies and if it was at a registry, registrar and/or ICANN level .. but I haven't gotten any further information (it was a few weeks ago).

It's too bad the following discussion has been moved from general domain discussions and hidden away in "Niche Discussions", but I strongly suggest looking at the longer discussion on the topic here:

@Ategy.com I recall the thread you started before after looking at it. That situation is a bit different. I am not for censorship or gov't intervention. Obvious criminal names or suggestions of those activities as what started the thread- are borderless and universally accepted as criminal acts and sickening. So aftermarkets of domain name sales like Godaddy could in fact prevent such being resold. Then the hosting companies can also prevent it from being populated with bad content.

But on the other hand- disgusting, racist or hateful names are not necessarily criminal, and I don't think most people support specific countries dictating their own rules of hate speech on the rest of the world, no matter where the origin of the content is. Where the website content is received and shown to the viewer and displayed- it can be censored by that gov't in that specific country at their own expense.

Or the terms of service where the specific content is hosted, often will prevent such websites from being hosted in the first place.

Well website content is a different thing and much more defined in he eyes of the law.

You also need to be sure "universally accepted as criminal acts and sickening" is VERY well defined under a code of laws / guidelines .. otherwise that's when you have the potential of those in power to abuse the system in order to censor more and more.

That being said .. yes indeed .. the GD auction platform is a private system and GD can (and should) block these extreme names. But again, I feel that they too should have a very clear set of rules/guidelines in order to prevent abuse on both sides.

I've since added a bit more to the conversation .. I suggest you check it out to get the full scope of what I'm trying to say! :)

Jeepers man, thats just insane... can't believe that domain even made it on to the listings without anyone noticing it.

Perhaps they should have let the domain stay on the market and see if someone buys it..then used it to setup a sting operation..find out who the buyer was and send authorities to raid his house. Anyone sick enough to buy a domain like that is a demented pheadophile and should be behind bars. Chances are if they raided his house they would have found enough evidence to put him behind bars... Actually, they should even raid the current owners house!

I hear the sound of sirens howling in the distance.

Why don't you have a seat right there?

This domain is NOT okay.

Not necessarily. I know a few very respectable domainers who have 'questionable' domains. They bought and held them to keep them out of circulation. I would also highly doubt a slimy paedophile would would advertise themselves from such a prominent website.

The seller, on the other hand, needs to be blacklisted from the industry. I have no words to describe him/her

Only a sicko would ever register that kind of filth.

Totally agree. Some domainers will buy them in the aftermarket though, or catch them on the drop, to get them out of circulation.

This type of domains should be locked/blocked from circulation by registrar's.

Yes I agree wholeheartedly. Kudos to GoDaddy for removing it.

Yes godaddy did the right thing. In my eyes they rised in my consideration by removing the domain.

Also kudos to all domainers who reg this domains to keep it out of bad hands.

Sickest name available. I do enjoy dark and provocative humor, but this name is just sad and beyond tasteless.

OT: People who harm kids in this way do not deserve to live, or at least not get out of their prison cell in their lifetime.

Good decision GoDaddy!
