I've been called a few times. They kept bugging me whether I wanted hosting and exclaiming at the number of domains I own.

I told them that I bought and sold them and the lady apprently thought "that's so cool." Hah, yea, wasn't the most exciting thing ever but definitely not unpleasent.

I always seem to get a call when I move a batch away, or when a group is about to "expire".
Usually not the same person, so I don't think it's an assigned account rep or anything, but always nice to feel "wanted" ;)

Very few do, actually.
As others said (to use Allan's own words, "always nice to feel 'wanted'"), I guess it has its good points. It keeps you from feeling like just a number; as in they take you personal. It can also remind of of things you forgot or ditched the email about, like renewals. But, it is advertising a bit too much. My favorite registrar doesn't just cold-call me, and I don't cold-call them, unless there is a problem. I kind of like it that way :imho:
Email me away :) Start calling me out of the blue, and you might quickly find my number unlisted (as in my account gone). Sure, if there is a problem, let me know via any means you can. But, untill then, don't bother me at home or on the job. I am a customer of yours already, so I can look on your website or in emails for deals/specials. Your advertising this way, had I already not been a customer of yours, would amount to telemarketing. And, who here likes telemarketers?

Just things :imho:

Way back, I registered my first domain with them, and they called me to "welcome" me to Godaddy. It was really nice warm welcome, although they did try to get me to buy stuff from them; Hosting, VPS, SSL, IP :p

Yep.
The calls ranged from "Welcome to GoDaddy" to "A couple of your domains are about to expire" to "Hi. This is <name> from GoDaddy appreciation team".
Missed that last one, so they left a voicemail. Really intrigued about what "appreciation team" really means.

Too little too late for me. I've learned that when I really want a professional registrar with top notch customer service, I need to find it elsewhere. I've found Moniker to be much much better.

Those calls are something you're going to have to expect from now on. It's
really not a "good" business decision to call every customer to just welcome
them, especially for registrars who need every method they can think of to
grab an extra buck.

As stackedtech said, they tried to sell him stuff. That's the inherent reason
for the call, of course. ;)

Personally, I hate it. I appreciate the welcome, but I tell them upfront I don't
want any sales pitches unless I ask.

But...that's business nowadays...

The good part,,,They didn't ask me to buy anything-lol.....The call was more of a ...." We appreciate your business" And the guy wanted to know my thoughts on godaddy in general....He probably wasn't real happy when i told him i reg most of my names at DomainSite.com
