I've heard that GD are terrible for hosting but I also heard that about my current host but I've never really had any major problems with them, their actually really good but with GoDaddy I can get 1 years hosting for about ยฃ31 (including 20$ off) so so it's quite temping, plus I use them for domain registration and I use, cash parking, and their domain auction so it would be nice to have everything under one roof, so to speak.

So, are they really that bad a host?! Would I be wasting my money?

my main complaints about GD shared hosting:

- clunky custom control panel
- terrible web stats unless you pay extra ( sometimes i don't want to put google analytics on a site )
- restrictive terms and conditions ( cannot "promote gambling" e.t.c )

other than than that, i guess they're okay. dirt cheap and i've never had much downtime to speak of.

Thanks NC, I guess there is no harm in trying them out! I don't trade in gambling names so I should be ok there. :)

I agree about the clunky custom control panel ;) They need improvements there but overall I don't have anything real negative to say about their hosting. Let us know your experiences Lemon.

Most of the experiences I've heard are every bit the same as above. If you don't mind making some sacrifices and don't need to deal with technical support all too often, Godaddy is the way to go as far as price. Unless, of course, you plan to actually use what you're paying for.

However, I always go by the mantra, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you're happy with your current hosting, why change?

Godaddy is big company that's why as good as bad revies can be found.

I really don't think Godaddy is as bad as a lot of people say but there are some things that I don't like (asuming your talking about shared hosting):

Limited mysql databases - it gets so anoying having to keep deleting them

No bandwidth overage protection - Ok... not really much of a problem but I'm like paranoid about bandwith, haha

And... really that's about it, I've had no problems and my sites only ever been down for like an hour.... on New Years actually, haha... maybe it was some system glitch

There are a couple of guys who post on here I may actually go with because they are even cheaper than GD but of course you don't get all that disk space and bandwidth, I will continue to have a little look around and if I sign up with GD I will let you all know.

I have got hundreds of domains with godaddy and they are good with domains. But I think there are many web hosting providers which are better than godaddy. e.g. bluehost, easy cgi etc...

GoDaddy is definitely the lower-end of hosting services. Many free hosts even top them. I believe they sell it simply because they can find people to buy it who are misinformed about the whole hosting business. Do some searching and you'll definitely find some great companies! I'd personally recommend mine but then again, I have a bias there :p

Also when people buy domains at godaddy, they provide their web hosting options and so people are tempted to go with their web hosting as they don't want to research web hosting market.

Hello Santrex,
I too am of that opinion.
Both the domain and hosting are important in web hosting.
when we take Godaady as a web host I have heard mixed reviews about them.
But I really accepting their service as a domain registrar.

Well I have signed up with GD, no probs yet.

Regarding the control panel, I can see what you mean about being clunky but I really don't think it's that bad. :)

Godaddy is good registrar, but really really bad host.

I moved to godaddy from a cheap host, I paid for 1 year at godady, and got the basic hosting.

After I paid them, I was first surprised to see that there is no Cpanel with the basic hosting plan.

After that, I tried to run my site, I use some rss feeds, but I was surprised again to see that, godaddy had some problem with some site's rss, I was unable to run simple rss feeds.

So, I tried some other site's feed, which at last worked, after few days, I released that I made the big mistake of choosing godaddy hosting.

There are so many problems, and above all, godaddy supoort, I will rate Zero.

they know nothing, they help in no way.

I am now happy with hostgator hosting.

Yep, in fact I believe the only plans they offer with cPanel are the "premium" virtual dedicated and dedicated servers, which cost $114.93 and $299 per month respectively.

I'd agree with the above about the "clunky" simple control panel. HostGator is a much better choice for basic hosting.

Godaddy is gust started web hosting service provider and I think that you have to understand that they need some time to get things work better.

Ok got a bit annoyed at not being able to use Wordpress post by mail feature and there were a few other bits which annoyed me so I have got a refund and I'm gonna go with HostGator.
