GoDaddy is abusing their WHOIS access rules by blocking permanently IPs after a few queries on port 43, like 6 queries done in 15 minutes (!!).

this seems to intend to lead everyone to go to their Web base WHOIS system where they can get a lot more information and control everything...

this started happening a few weeks ago.

I've noticed too that the whois for godaddy names now it's forcing to go to the godaddy whois page, tucows was doing that for their domains as well also... it seems that each are compartmentalizing the whois of their clients...

Coincidentally.

yea. It's screwing up things royally too with their Resellers like CheapDomain (godaddy reseller)

having issues right now. trying to transfer out but seems like they are updating their servers.

now you can't see my info besides my name and organization.

just provides you with link to Godaddy whois.

yeah, but this is abusive. they are not allowed to block access to port 43 on just a few queries, much less blocking the IP permanently. It seems they are using their weight on the market to impose their own rules...

this can be a result of another issue that is occurring also now regarding Verisign having changed their WHOIS output format in preparation for the tick whois server model without warning. This has lead to break many WHOIS query tools, web or command line based.
