What does transfer mean? Does it mean that by using the discount code i can transfer the domain from dynadot to godaddy for that amount with the next year fee paid?

Yes, that is exactly what it means.

I've always found it odd how registrars always say you get the free 1 year extension when you pay for a transfer.

Isn't it a given? Are there any registrars who don't?

Yes it is a given, there are no registrars that don't. It's just the lingo... a bit like saying you get 1 year warranty with that new tv.

Actually, if you already have time left beyond a year at the current registrar, you sometimes lose time when transferring to a new registrar, as they will only transfer part of the time you have on the current registration. Or, at least I know it used to be that way; I haven't tried to transfer a name that had multiple years registered in advance recently, but I know that in transferring a large list of names from name.com and enom years ago to godaddy, I lost on the ones that had multiple years. Seems to me they took everything over 2 years, but I can't seem to find any info on it now.....but I'd keep it in mind. I had several names that were registered for 5-8 years in advance and I lost quite a few years at first. Luckily, I'm a VIP at godaddy and they agreed to compensate me the years (don't be afraid to ask), but unless things have changed you don't always get that extension of a year.

GDBBREN8 just worked for me for 8.67 total cost renewals on .com and 7.68 for .org renewal. Cheaper than any of the other renewal codes listed for the last several days. The only one that came close was BACON3, which had the same cost for .com, but was almost 12.00 for the .org renewal.

A year will always be added on, unless you are at the max (10 years for a .com). In that case, you can't register beyond 10 years and you won't get an 11th year added on.

I transferred a domain recently and it now has an expiration date of 2020, and the years carried over just fine. I think you just hit a fluke situation for some reason.

If you transfer to Yahoo Domains (Melbourne IT), your Renewal Date will be the date when you transferred your domain to them. So if your domain expires on December 30, but you transferred your domain on September 30, they will auto-bill you on the domain renewal on September 30.

Unlike with Godaddy, if your domain expires on December 30, and you transferred the domain to Godaddy on September 30, your Renewal Date is still December 30.

In theory you pay a registrar to have it manage your domain, but, yes, the free 1-year ext is always included.

I pay $8.49 per renewal + ICANN (using codes like GDBBREN8). Does the GD club do better for renewals?

GD DDC Renewals are $8.19 + (.18 ICANN)= $8.37 without coupon searching.

My time is valuable and I run 2 businesses besides playing with domains, so the auto renew at $8.37 is fine with me when I am not paying attention or too busy to care.

The DDC is around $90, but I used a coupon and got it for around $60.

You pay $8.49+.18=$8.67 for Renewals with COUPON SEARCHING

I pay $8.19+.18=$8.37 for Renewals without COUPON SEARCHING

The difference is ONLY $0.30 per domain. BUT, since I have over 300 domains, that is more than $90 per year in just renewal savings between me and you and I only paid around $60 for the DDC. Not to mention, while everyone else hunts for .com coupons for new regs and renewals at around $8, I am automatically there without wasting my time. And when a $.99-$6 coupon is available for a new reg, then I will use that too. This is how the DDC is worth doing for me.

Not sure about Sperry8, but I have some questions...

Are you locked into the DDC? What I mean is, IF a $7.49 dot com renewal code came out then are you able to take advantage of the coupon or are you locked into $8.37?

Also, do you have to do auto-renewal or can you do manual renewal? I cant do manual renewal for financial reasons. I must manually renew what I can afford on a particular month and if I have a good financial month then I renew a month or two in advance or else I sometimes wait until after the credit card cut off date and play that game...

So two questions really: 1) locked in? 2) must auto-renew?

You can still use coupons while being in the DDC.

You can pick manual renew for your domains.

Don't forget TopJimmy's comment on using a coupon to bring down the cost of the Discount Club price. I did the same thing so it takes fewer renewals per year to make back the cost of the Discount Club.

Plus you get a few other things that you might have paid for separately (I did it for 3 years and got these also included)

Go Daddy Auctions Membership w/ DomainAlert 4.99 Length: 1 Year(s)

DomainAlert(R) Pro Monitoring - 100 Pack - Renewal (I don't even know what this is)

Express Domain Name Appraisal (looks like I got 5 of these)

Regards,
DN
