I just got a call from someone at GoDaddy and he wanted to let me know about my renewals and if I needed any assistance. I said, "no assistance needed and I will call back if need be". My question is, has anyone had GoDaddy call their home on a weekend?.

Its probably some scammer, wanting your credit card or paypal account or some personal information.

....
No registry would call their customers. Unless its something of legal matter or you asked them to. In domain registration business, you register a domain for $7.99 coupon, renew it for $10 or $11, GD makes about 3 dollars.

Not worth it for them to even pick up the phone.

You might be the target of some scam artist.

I was at DP, exposing this con artist, he in turned called me through my whois info....I pretend like I don't know who he is.

I would be careful of anything like this personally, just tell them thanks for the reminder and put the phone down without giving them a chance to respond as you did would be my response too. How am I supposed to verify that they are who they are?

WRONG

Yes registrars like GoDaddy do call customers. I have gotten multiple calls from GoDaddy.v It is a bit odd that they would call on a weekend, my most recently recieved call was the day before Thanksgiving.

While it might not be the norm, they can and do call. And it does not have to be legal issues.

Always be aware of possible scams and if a registrar calls you they can easily prove who they are.

They left me a VM once, can't remember if it was on a week-end. But they are known for the 'personal' approach including phone calls.

I did receive calls from GoDaddy in the past. It's not something unusual. Like others I'm not sure if it was on a weekend or a weekday.

I've gotten calls from GD -- don't think it was on a weekend, but my account rep does work weekends and I have called him before on a Saturday / Sunday.

But agreed with the other posters -- ALWAYS be careful of potential scams...

DN

I have a couple hundred domains and my GoDaddy Rep reaches out to me almost monthly....

It is one thing to have a representative at the company who contacts you on a regular basis and you have forewarning, but it is quite another when I can basically find anyones phone number and claim to be someone I am not, with a little skype trickery I can be untracable so keep hitting registrant after registrant until they give me whatever details I want. Once I have "verified" your credit card for security reasons I am off to the other suckers...just be careful what you tell them is important.

Just because someone claims to be from somewhere does not mean they are.

... Unless you got like 800+ domains with them, now they'll pick up the phone and give you a call. In another popular registrar, their concierge called me up one time to remind me of my expiring domains and offered a promo discount to keep the domains with them. The concierge didn't ask for any personal infos from me. And all discounts were transacted thru their official registrar webpage (not over the phone).

This validates the need for Private Whois registration. A fence in the backyard, is better than no fence at all.

lol you don't have to have 800+ domains for a registrar to contact you that is silly. You don't even need half that # in domains.

My Go Daddy account manager once called me at around 5:30 AM. I kindly explained him that it was very early in the morning in my country. The next time, he called me at around 6 AM...

Go Daddy may be the world's largest registrar, but it seems some of their employees know little about the world outside the U.S.

Ya, i think that GoDaddy gives them some simple guidelines and the account managers get creative. I would just recommend communicating any problems you have with timing etc, they should understand. That is crazy about them calling you so early, they should have known your country timing.

I feel that them contacting us is a good thing, at least they are reaching out and easy to communicate with in this manner. Better than some of these other companies who are pretty well impossible to talk to *GOOGLE COUGH*

Like someone else said, if you don't want them contacting you tell them that. I will probably continue to hear from Godaddy every couple of months i figure.

I agree it is good that they keep in touch and tell about promotions and other things. No need to be my wake-up call, though :hehe:

I was saying the more domains you have in your portfolio with a registrar, the "more likely" they'll take the time to call you up. 800+ was just an arbitrary number for a more dramatic illustration. lol.

By the way, this guy in the news today who owned a torrent related domain seized by the feds, he was complaining that Godaddy didn't even bother to call him up to inform him his domain is toast. lol

I too have been called by GD reps several times in the last 6 weeks.
The calls were also accompanied by an email.
And the reps do work weekends.
