GoDaddy auctions not expired domain as expired

I have just come across to this weird Godaddy auction:

This is about the domain LAWFUEL.COM
It says:
Sale Type: Expiring Auction
Current Bid: USD $355
Bid History: 22 Bids

However when you open the site you see an active site.

The domain has past the expiration day. Once one at TDNAM the winner will have to wait a week I think and if the current domain owner still does not renew it by then, then the domain will transfer into there account and they can change the nameservers to park it or to forward to another site or whatever.

the current owners most likely just have forgotten to renew it or something has happened to the owner thats why the lapse in renewing.

The domain has expired but the Nameservers haven't changed. It looks like a glitch. If the domain is attractive to you, I'd bid on it.

I suppose that would be enough to contact web hosting provider to make sure about that.

To me it looks like a glitch as well but rather an important one. The website owner might not be aware that his domain has expired. The domain is on auction but the site still functions as normal. If the site was taken down the site the owner would be made aware of that by site users, or he might visit his own site. I guess he doesn't monitor the email address on file.

There are a few other localities of that site and they all look active, with new news items etc.

The com version expired on 31-aug-2010. So one month after the .com expired they are still adding content to the co.uk and co.nz versions as normal. It looks like they are not aware.

Moniker whois search is redirected to this site for detailed whois:

However securepaynet.net is down. So maybe securepaynet.net was a godaddy reseller and they closed down and this caused a problem with renewing the domain.

I sent the domain owner three emails. Two of them were undelivered. It looks like one of them reached it's destination. I didn't get any thank you email though.

http://whois.domaintools.com/lawfuel.com well it was sold on tdnam as expired domain for 2000$ recently I saw that the whois info changed also... Not bad for a google news listed Law related website.

Why on Earth didn't he renew for years if he almost lost it last year too.

Well they dont own the domain anymore this year it was sold successfully at tdnam while the website was up and updated whole time... I think they can get it back as I saw they have a company registred to this name but yeah a 10$ renewal would be cheaper)
