Yes, obviously it is for name recognition. However, they way it is done for the product, I think, is not a good way to go for domain names.
Secondly, the target audience is all wrong, especially with the sex. I just don't see how the general public is interested in domains and websites when they have MySpace and places like that where it is much more fun and easy and free to get a web page. Targeting superb*wl audiences and then with sex just seems like a bad fit for a domain company.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seems like a bad move to me.
There is more than one way to grab people's attention for name recognition. Sex is one of them, however, it's not good for all products/markets. Comedy is another one and I personally think that GD should go with comedy over sex. I just think it would fit better for domains.
Like I said, the sex route just seems so out of place to me for the product and it makes it cheesy. But not cheesy in a good way.
But anyway, that's why it may very well be that Bob just wanted to do it because it got to his head and he thought it was cool. Let's face it, that first superb*wl commercial they made was really cheesy, despite the sex. Just plain dumb, really. The fact that they had to play on the previous superb*wl's controversial event was just tacky and annoying. It's like being that annoying guy at the party that dresses funny and goes around making bad jokes and bringing up yesterdays jokes and thinking he is funny, but really he's just an annoying dude bringing the place down.
When the GD commercial came on, it was like as if to say..
"Heeeeya superb*wl fans! 'member last year?! 'meeeeember? Huh? Y'know, Jaaaaaanet Jackson? "Waaaardrobe malfunction"? Huh? huuuuuh? 'member that? 'member? Huh? Huh? Pretty cool. huh? Check this out, guys, check this out!"
About the wrestler. She might have been, I guess, but it's hard to believe. She's not a very big girl. All the other female wrestlers I have seen are tall and big boned women. Maybe she was a wrestler's sidekick, like Elizabeth was to the Macho Man. I could see that.
