Has anyone ever used GoDaddy to appraise domain names? They send a numbered certificate that states " suitabe for tax and insurance purposes " and gives a fairly wide range of value.

If anyone has used them, how reliable do you find their appriasals?

Thanks,

Doc

Never pay for appraisals...get them for free from places like this...just ask.

And just remember, a domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.....

its true that appraisals are free here and for that i am utmost thankful, but a tad spotty in terms of responses and reliability, i did a 1 GD appraisal recently for tellmequickly.com they said it was around $300 on the high end, if that is any barometer

Thanks for your candid response.

I am certain that someone will be rankled by this remark but FREE does not translate to expertise.

Is that person more accurate or qualified than a company (Afternic, GoDaddy, Moniker) that traffics in domains?

Even I am free to appraise in this forum and that I assure you would be a most dangerous advisement for anyone to act upon.

My domain experience is less than two months and while I have 35 solid years of finance experience in business, I would be of no substance in defining the value of a domain.

If a company that traffics in domains is thought to be less on the money, so to speak, than a forum appraiser then what is it that the forum appraiser knows that these companies don't?

It certainly could not be an experiential factor, as I doubt anyone selling domains in this forum has effected more transactions than anyone one of the few firms, I mentioned.

If forum appraisals are better, I would like to know on what grounds other than being free.

I am now ready for the salvos of anyone who may feel slighted by my questions.

1. check out the membership
Registered Members: 98,203 out of which are mostly domainers
2. software can be tricked, esp. automated ones, people can't be tricked
3. lots of tools, software, researches and people involved in the appraisal
4. the owner, management, staff are full time domainers
5. the best forum when it comes to domaining, np got it all, buy, sell and discussion of domains.

Lol

Hey excuse me all. I think this part of the forum is for appraisal of domains and not discussion on appraisals. LOL :hehe:

All the Best.

Thread moved to proper section.

Now, just a little something to consider before paying for appraisals.

Paid services are in the business of making money.
Now, if they give you a certificate that states "reg fee", will you ask for another domain appraisal from them?

Exactly. They will rather tell you want you want to hear. They want you to purchase more domains from them.
Here you will often be told your names are worth reg fee and rightfully so most of the time. Because we don't have any incentive for being misleading.

GD must be using automated appraisal software, which is hit and miss most of the time. Appraising domains is not exact science and even humans can be wrong.
Look at this and tell me the logic ?
