gifts.com type of website development

I want to develop a site that will not require me to inventory any of the items that I sell. I basically want to list items from other websites and when visitors to my site want to buy they are sent to other websites to purchase. The website I want to develop will function like gifts.com.
Does this type of website just require signing up as an affiliate with other websites to be able to list their products?
Is this a good way to develop a site or am I better off buying and inventorying product.
My goal is to develop a site that generates income without alot of maintenance and to be able to sell it in the future.

i understand wat kind of web site u want to start....

i think ur basic plan is to start store with affiliate account so that u wont have to worry abt inventory , shipping etc and focus on marketing and get more income. there are lots of scripts available for Amazon Associates .. even u can start simple html store for amzaon ..
