Travel-type website

I did just post a recent about help with development of a tablet site but I think I found a buyer so I am moving on. I registered directionfriend.com, and want to develop it into a website where users can post reviews and have directions linked to shops/restaurants/attractions in cities/towns all over the world that are not as well known as some of the major attractions. I tried searching for sites similar to this idea with no luck. Would word press be a good place to start with a design idea like this? Any help would be appreciated.

Nice site, I would like to do something similar but with more of a user input basis. I found something similar called TripAdvisor, I am just wondering if anyone has a good website design site to use that would be a kind of user input based site as in more focus on the social networking aspect.

how about using Joomla, with community extension (ex. CommunityBuilder), than add comment system (ex Jcomment), so each user has a profile page and can interact each other. Anyway, you still need to make a lot adjusment for templates, setting, plugins etc. However, this just a suggestion.
