I develop highly popular PHP Scripts and WordPress themes, available for free download with a single sponsor per script/theme. Users are able to remove the sponsor link by purchasing a license (though of course a vast majority keep the link). 3 scripts and 3 themes are already sponsored, but now I have another 2 WordPress themes ready to be sponsored.
How sponsorship works?
1 single link on the footer so the link juice doesn't spread.
The link can "rotate" so you can use several link urls and/or anchor texts. Rotation isn't random, so the same url will always display the same link, in order to avoid problems with search engines. Links can vary from url to url (this is, each url will always display the same link), or only from site to site (each site will always display the same link).
The theme is promoted in theme sites, niche forums, blogs, etc.
How much does it cost?
$50/month per theme (of course you can sponsor 1 or 2 themes), 3 months in advance (so the initial promotion is worth the sponsorship), payable via Paypal subscription.
This is a very cost-efficient way to improve your link popularity.

I'll show a demo of the themes to anyone interested. These are the theme features:
