Hi guys,

Not a fan of appraisals, would just like to know your opinion on 4L .es domains and .es domains in general.

Is there anyone actively selling them / or someone who have sold one or two in the past?

If so, where do you list them for sale?

I would like to sell Aaaa.es and also listed 13 domain hacks with .es extensions on Flippa, although it seems not to attract many people.

Any opinions welcomed.

Hi Pierre,

Good post and one of great interest to me. I have several .es domains as well (e.g. WasteIndustri.es; BestCompani.es; BudgetRecip.es; StopTheBulli.es; CurrySpic.es to name a few).

I haven't sold any as yet but only in the last few days I have placed some for sale for the first time on Sedo.

Why Sedo? After putting .es as the only filter in Namebio, the majority of sales seemed to generate from Sedo.

I'm not sure if Flippa is considered to be one of the best domain marketplaces. I have only ever listed about 3 or 4 domains on there as the basic listing ($9) and nothing seems to happen until the last couple of hours. I'm not a huge fan of it from my limited experience.

With my .es domains, my first intentions was to develop them, but if I can sell a few then this is then intended to fund the development of the others.

Not sure if this is of any help. Good luck in trying to move them on.

Best regards

Frank

Hey Frank,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The "domain hacks" you have there is great.

I managed to sell Stitch.es before on Flippa, but only for $37.

Learnt my lesson with the "no reserve", but it is a catch22 as I dont get bids if I put a reserve on Flippa, but if I do I rarely sell anything.

I also never managed to get a "Editors Pick" or anything like that. Anyway, you can follow along here if you want: https://flippa.com/8284548-portfolio-of-13-es-domains

I cant really figure out if people are really interested in "domain hacks", and if they are, which ones...

About Sedo, I have all mine listed there (not auction), but no inquiries yet. Is yours just listed also, or they on auction?

Hi Pierre,

Mine are listed - I haven't put any on auction yet. I only listed them on Monday. I will see how it goes for a few days before thinking about an auction. Not sure about the "guaranteed sale" option. It seems you could be almost giving your domains by the look of it.

What do you mean about learning your lesson with "no reserve"? Do you mean your sales value is too low without a reserve?

Clearly hacks do sell as the Sedo figures demonstrate. I think, like many domain sales, it is often a case of 'being in the right place at the right time' - or not, as the case may be.

I know what you mean about appraisals. Some of them are so far reaching, from things like reg fee to $x to $x,xxx it is difficult to know which (if any) are anywhere near accurate. At the end of the day, domains are like property in a way - their true value is only what buyers are prepared to pay for them.

Take for instance a company I did some work for. Their company name is brandable(ish), two words and makes sense (this is not their name, but something of the ilk of "Red Lorry" - i.e. a simple, two worded name). They wanted the two worded domain, found it was already taken, so bought the same name with the word "the" in front of it. And it was a .co.uk. If you put it on here for appraisal, the 'gurus' would probably say "reg fee", or $xx at best. They ended up paying ยฃx,xxx for it because they really wanted it.

Have you considered developing some of your .es domains? I've had a look at your list and, in my opinion, there are some good ones in there - particularly "GoldPric.es".

Best regards

Frank

I share your point of view regarding appraisals. For me, domain appraisals are useless. It might tell you "You could get more or less $50 BUT, you might get nothing OR you might get $5000". That's not really useful to anyone. The only real value is, as you said, what the buyer is willing to pay.

I mean, I own the domain XLN.io, from experience, I KNOW this will sell for around $50 on Flippa (if that much). But on a specific day, someone (read Chinese investor) MIGHT see it and buy it for $1000. You just never know.

What I mean about the reserve is that, IMO or experience, when I list a domain, starting at $1 with no reserve, people seem more likely to place a bid. But not always. As everything in domaining, nothing is certain, and all is not always what it seems. And on Flippa, you need the bids to get in the "busy" section and be noticed.

Maybe, I am being thick now, but if you list a domain at $1 with no reserve and someone only bids $1 then you sell it for only $1? Or, do you have the option to reject that bid? As I say, I'm not overly familiar with Flippa.

100% correct, so its is high risk, unless you dont really care about the domain and playing the "maybe lots of people will bid on it" card.
