GD stopping certain expiring domains from entering closeout?

Anyone ever watch a domain name on GD auctions and notice the listing just disappears immediately after ending with 0 bids without entering into closeout BIN like every other domain?

I thought it could've been renewed or transferred by registrant at first, but it couldn't be because I seen this happen the same day with about 3 or 4 really good ones I was watching.

Is this something known that if a name has obvious quality to it and receives no bids, it'll be flagged by GD and not sent to closeout?

An update, the two domains I created this thread about are now registered to 2 new people unaffiliated with GD. It wasn't a backorder because they never dropped and still have age. It must have been some type of closeout snipe service but again very odd because 1 didn't even show as being closed, the other automatically went to "This auction is no longer available" screen after it ended and stood there.

And they're both still with GD, not a different registrar.

I have had names that I have decided to keep after the auction process has ended so I will get the authorization code and start the process of transferring to another registrar. After 72 hours if I do not complete the transfer the transfer is automatically timed out and the transfer is cancelled.
When this happens the name is automatically taken out of my expired domains list and added back into my active domain list and is available for me to re-register at regular price and bypass the $80 redemption fee. Once it is re-registered all auction history disappears and I can keep the Whois as is or change it or move to another account.
I think this is sometimes why you will see names that are still registered at Godaddy after the auction process has ended and end up with the no auction history but still have Godaddy Whois.

Just to clarify, when you say "re-register", you mean renew, right?

GoDaddy don't auction Pending Delete domains. They only auction off Pre-Release Domains. Which means all domains in their auctions maintain their registration date and stay at GoDaddy (well at least for 60 days). Apart from the transfers by the original owners, hookbox mentioned.

I just had something interesting happen that relates to this thread. I had placed an expiring domain on my watchlist and the auction was due to close on Oct 4th. I had intended to bid 5 minutes before the auction ended but somehow got distracted and didn't get to it until the very last minute when I rushed to place my backorder. Unfortunately I was too late. By the time I completed the backorder the auction had closed and there were apparently no bids on the domain.

I waited all day to see if the domain would enter the closeout phase, but, much the way that was described by the OP, that never happened and the domain never reappeared on my watchlist to show that someone else had picked it up as a closeout. I've been monitoring the domain's whois ever since and I could see that it was not being renewed by the owner.

Here's the interesting part. I forgot to cancel my backorder and this morning I received a notification from GoDaddy that the domain was "successfully captured" to my account. I checked the whois record and it still bears the original creation date which means that it was never dropped. So, it seems that even though a domain doesn't enter the closeout phase you can still get it just by keeping the backorder for it active -- at least, that's what happened in this one case.

Well it might be the answer for the big question about the domains that just disappear. :)
It might be that from time to time there is a last minute backorder which godaddy capture and it doesn't turn to $10 auction because there is no time left. Something like Godaddy's "The Twilight Zone"!!! Hilarious!
