for a while now i've been wondering why GD doesn't accept 2-character domains to be registered or transfered, anyone know why that is?

One reason ICANN no longer allowed 2-character domain names is due to their
potential conflict with ccTLDs. Sorry I forgot the exact link, but that's what I
remember at the top of my head.

i thought i remembered something like that as well, however, how is it possible to register 2-character domains at other registrants then? :-/

Register, no. But transfer while it's still paid, yes.

There's a difference. ;)

here's the thing though, i just got done registering another set of 2-character (LL and NN) domains. technically it shouldn't be possible or is it depending on the extension? I reg'd .vg ccTLD(s), which in the end, GD doesn't even let me attempt to register them, while iDotz does,...different company policies?

More or less.

But check back after a day or 2 from iDotz. I have a bad feeling about that.

i registered 2-char domains throughout the past 2 weeks, they are all safe and sound in my account. Seems to work out flawlessly so far. i'm sorta confused about that as well. i'll keep you posted.

There are a number of ccTLDs that allow 2 letter domains. It is possible that Icann will prevent new TLDs from selling them, I do not know about that. But they exist and you can buy them in several extensions for Reg fee.

Godaddy has a website program that does not recognise two letter domains. That is the problem there, I have talked to the staff, the attitude was (with out saying it) there are so few of them that it is not worth the trouble. I think the same program is in use at other registrars. It is (ahhhhhh) a neglected field.

I know that you can reg two letter .LA and .VC at dotster for $35 / yr. I think you can get some others at adamsnames(dot)com, not sure about that.

Just for the record:

I transferred a 2 character .net domain to GoDaddy 2 months ago.

It seems, especially as accentnepal's experience indicates, they've just set their software to reject anything under 3 characters, instead of having it check against each extension.

re: idotz.net, I regged an LL.vg a couple of months ago and it went through fine.

I think if you have the name, and are simply transfering it, then its fine. But if you are buying it, godaddy will not allow it.
