Gas scooter/gas-powered bike.. help

Hey guys,

I need a cheaper way to get to and from work (besides walking/biking/jogging which take too long.) My truck gets 11MPG and because of that no one will buy it and I'm tired of driving it to work everyday because of the fuel costs (even though they are down.)

So I am wondering what I should do.

- I was looking into scooters but I don't feel like spending $5,000 on an expensive Vespa or Honda. There are cheaper ones for $2,000 and under but they are from brands like this 'Roketa' a brand which I have never heard of.

- I also checked out gas powered bikes, like something called the "Windjammer" and there's also a plain looking motorized bicycle I found.

What should I do? I want to get something that runs off of gas (not electricity), is street legal, reputable, 70+ MPG, and won't bust my budget ($2k or under).

Does anyone have any ideas or know of any price-efficient but trustworthy websites that may sell similar things?

Buy a new fuel efficient car and take advantage of the full trade in value that some dealerships offer.

My truck is a 1987 F150 that no one wants and the most any dealer will give me (at least the ones I have asked) is $500 and that's the highest one. Plus I've already taken out a mortgage on some property, so I have no money or any way of financing for any vehicle even if my truck was worth something.

That's why a new car/truck/SUV is completely out of my range, and why I have to look for something like a scooter/gas bike/whatever other ideas you guys might have.

I'm kind of in the same boat.. even if I had a car, maintenance, insurance, etc is more than I can afford at the moment..

I think the roketa is the best bang for the buck....the bicycle styled rides will most likely have what is comparable to a large weed eater engine...while the roketa is set up for street riding with a 150cc engine....Plenty of power, and all the features one would need to use it as transportation on city streets...dang i like it so much...i may get me one and park my 02 F150 for a while.

I don't think that scooter is good choice,
because for first it is dangerous and ex. if there will be rain You will be all wet and you will need to have second dress with You :)

Maybe You will try to look for some europe cars ? there is a lot which can 25mpg or more.

btw. which year is yours f150 ?

Been looking along these lines myself.. biggest drawbacks: weather and ability to carry any kind of cargo

That's what I've been thinking as well. I've been planning to buy a new scooter but that's what backs me off.

didn't think about that...mainly the winter weather here...it would be painful riding that scooter here in the winter...they say there is enough cargo space on some of them to stick a small bag of grociers, maybe i will look at getting one in the late spring this next year and ride it through the summer months.

We have never gotten enough snow to worry about since I've lived here, but rain is another story. You "could" always have a sidecar or trailer for grocery runs, I suppose.

hmmm...your right..because i did see a couple that had an optional little trailer you can buy...i saw one..a 250cc ...it had a very small cargo box on the back of it....they said that 250 will run 70mph + ...pretty impressive...i can't remember the exact price on the 250cc...i think it was $1,900 .... the 125cc would be plenty for me though i think.

Here in Missouri, the 50CC full-size scooters run about $1000 new and only require a license, no insurance or plates...

hehe nice, in Poland and I think that in all EU is vice versa, You don't need to have a license for 50CC, but must have insurance and plates. :)
