And now it makes sense:

"It took years for Google to realize that many Chinese couldn't pronounce its name. The company ultimately had to rebrand itself GuGe in China. Even then, many people still chose to call it GoGo."

That is why Google changed their name.

It is easier for abc.xyz to be pronounced and remembered everywhere in the world than say Google.com (pronounced GuGu or GoGo in China).

Using the name "G" and G.xyz will make it much easier to pronounce and remember.

Alphabet is the name of the holding company.

They won't rename all their brands or properties to this brand. We won't see Alphabettube, Alphabetmail, Alphabetsearch etc. The brands won't be renamed.

Just like Unilever is the holding company for hundreds of brands (Lipton, Dove etc) that are marketed to the consumer but not as the Unilever brand.

they already bought g.cn for 7 figures many years back. See what happens when you visit g.cn

They already re-named Google X, to just X.

You are blind, completely blind. It is an obvious move but takes a long time to impliment given their size @dordomai

You obviously haven't been following Google long enough given that you trust their Press Releases word for word.

Google X is not a brand.

As of the last update, Google was not a brand in China either. The company had to re-brand under GoGe since it was being pronounced wrong but it didn't help much. GoGe was still getting pronounced as GoGo.

Remove your bias and think about what you would do in this situation. What about all of the other countries and languages in the world?

How do you make sure all of your companies are pronounced correctly world-wide and recognized in the same places as the same companies?

You limit the name of your companies to one letter. Like their company X http://solveforx.com

And if you created a holding company for all of your companies what would you name it?

ALPHABET

Common now. I understand some people are less intuitive and more observant but judging by your posts, you cannot even see your hand in front of your face @dordomai

continue to use g.cn instead of .xyz which is an unknown extension in China?

Maybe you should remove your obvious bias. What's to gain from using an unknown extension when .cn is established and has historically been used when .com was not an option.

From a branding perspective this is a horrible option for many reasons. Single letter brands don't allow for much flexibility. They can be quite soulless. It can work for some but not all.

Your restrict yourself to very limited branding options by doing that.

Also Google is a pretty good brand as is Youtube. It is worth a lot. Why destroy these fine brands? I doubt that the shareholders would approve this sacrifice.

You are a strong observant and focus on the past and present much more than you focus on the future. Not only in terms of investments but also in terms of your personal relationships.

You are not fit for predicting the future
but only fit for managing the present.

Take a personality test and you will see that I am right @dordomai

Google owns it's name in IDN extension:.่ฐทๆญŒ as do other big companies.

The overall push is for companies to use 5, 10 or even 100+ domains to meet different audiences and for different occasions. All of those sites will link back to the parent site also known as a 'HUB'.

This technique will eventually be factored in a more specific way in Google Search.

I noticed Google uses Duck.com

I've often wondered if that was a blow at DuckDuckGo?

Dordomai is right tho, you're thread is pretty much bias, and in my unimportant opinion, it's really just your ideal expectation of what you want to happen in regard to .xyz.

Lol. Yeah, that makes sense.

Purchasing domain names is kind of like geopolitics.

Not really, but it is good to buy up domain names that your competitors might use in the future against you.

(Names they don't have the rights to of course)

I invest based on my expectations so it would only make sense that the two are aligned. This isn't my first time doing this so I know where I stand.

That is why it will be done step-by-step over a long period of time. They started in August of 2015.

Check: abc.xyz

Notice the header?

G
is for Google

It is becoming more obvious every month but it was already semi-obvious to me about a year ago. You have to read between the lines and I don't mean in a non-sense sort of way. You have to analyze and imagine their intent, strategy and next moves. Some people have a talent for that, others don't.

I think .cctlds are best for communicating with users from a specific country in a more personalized way.

That said I don't think there is that much of a need or want for .xyz. that is just my opinion.

Yes, I don't think ccTLDs will ever go away. But who knows.

I think the .XYZ will be used as if it was ALPHABET's .brand.

They already cannot use .ABC and I think .ALPHABET would be too inconvenient for people to type. I believe domain names are going to get shorter in the future and Google was ahead of the curve.

I'm glad you @Brandingtheweb.com @Kate @JB Lions didn't buy up all the domains when I first started posting about this. It took me a while to realize I needed to drop a lot of the two word domains and focus on 1 word and pronouncable LLLL. My portfolio isn't the best in NP but it is good enough.

It's been almost a year of .commers shaming posts and predictions but one of the domain news outlets ran an article about a similar prediction just recently:

"Getting acquired by a big Internet venture, or registrar, or Google themselves, would not be surprising either. Silicon Valley ventures and angel investors donโ€™t follow the type of logic that average domain investors share.

As long as the .XYZ numbers keep increasing โ€“ at whatever cost โ€“ these goals are quite possible to materialize."

http://domaingang.com/domain-news/domain-pennies-time-is-running-out-on-3-million-plus-xyz-domains/

If you read between the lines you'll know that DomainGang wrote this article based on the information he received. I don't have inside information but I follow their team on social media and they are in constistant contact with TheDomains, DomainInvesting and DomainGang. This is a precurser to an official announcement but there might be a more credible precurser such as an article by Mike Berkins.

It is no longer a question of if I'll make a profit but a question of when and how much. Not like I didn't expect this but it has been a long time coming.
