Hello guys. Yesterday, a neat expiring name had caught my attention, suppressor.com . I made a bid 2 minutes before the end of the auction, and immediately entered a bidding war with 10 or 11 bidders, which lasted almost an hour, and which I won with my final bid at $3470.

Now, imagine my surprise what I found this morning amongst auctions that end today... suppressor.com!!! With me as a highest bidder at $3470. WTF?!!!
And after 10 minutes on the phone with GoDaddy they tell me that it is me who is wrong, the auction did not end yesterday, it ends today. Neat. I've never made a bid on a domain auction that does not end the same day. But ok, suppose that I am hallucinating, but what about 10 other bidders then? Ever seen 60-65 bids within an hour or two for an auction that ends tomorrow?

So, 5 minutes before of its end today, somebody makes 1 bid well above my reserve of $4100, and wins the auction ( that I won yesterday).

Do you guys know whats going on or ever being in a situation like this? And, Godaddy--WTF?

There was a technical issue yesterday on GD auctions.

All April 3 auctions were extended by one day.

I was bidding on another name around the same time. I watched the auction right until the very end, refreshing every 10 seconds to make sure I won. I go home later that night and find out that the auction is once again active, with 18+ hours left.

I contacted Godaddy and explained to them that I get that they can extend an auction prior to it finishing, but after an auction finishes they cannot just bring it back from the dead.

In my case, the name was in the $xxx range, and the extra day only cost me an extra $25. Still pissed off at Godaddy though. Their explanation was that they have every right to extend an auction, before or after it ends.

I did not receive a confirmation email the first time the auction ended, but got one last night. What I did receive after my intial bid was an email saying:

"You have been outbid by another bidder for ##########.com.

Don't let this valuable domain name slip by! Place another bid before the listing closes on 04/03/2014 11:50 AM (PDT)."

04/03/2014 was the day it was supposed to end, until Godaddy decided to extend it by a day AFTER 04/03/2014 11:50 AM (PDT)

Simply put, Godaddy is as shady and slimy as they come. I'm looking into other registrars to move my 150 or so names to.

I spoke with 2 managers at Godaddy customer "care". One guy was named Jason, and the other Brandon Boll. I wouldn't hire either of those 2 idiots to flip burgers for me.

To me, this is a black eye for Godaddy, and a big "F YOU" from me to them.

If there was a bidding war prior to the "first" auction end, you should have received an email stating that you have been outbid. That email will also state the end time of the domain (which like mine, was also 04/03/2014). I was watching Suppressors. Same shenanigans happened with microbike.com and a couple of others that I was watching.

GoDaddy had a major problem, and still have problem, with their auction platform. Which isn't any comfort for you guys. But I'd cut them some slack over this. Look on the bright side. You both still won the domains you were after. I didn't see anything untoward about the bidding on microbike(s).com

You wouldn't see anything wrong with microbikes. It shows that the auction completed on 04/04/2014. What it doesn't show is that the auction ended on 04/03, and then was extended.

If you check again, the OP didn't win his domain, as high bid increased substantially. He has more right to be peeved than I do, as I did win mine and the godaddy stunt only cost me an extra $25.

I was interested in a domain auction ending Friday. I was busy during the day and when I got back to my computer I didn't see the name listed. I thought well it looks like somebody was interested too and they won the auction without me even participating. Oh well - there are other domain auctions. Note that if an auction ends with no bidders the domain will disappear for a few minutes and then be available for $11 + the renewal. So I checked back a few times later in the day and it was not there. So lost opportunity... Then I checked again Saturday morning and it appeared so I grabbed it. Perhaps this issue with auctions also impacted the domain I was interested in in an unexpected way.

NEVER MIND! I see you did get the domain after all.

But if a domain disappears from your watch list, the original registrant probably renewed it or transferred it out.

I was recently watching ToGod [dot] com -- never had a chance to bid, and Shazam! it was gone.

The original registrant had transferred it out.

It happens a lot with Go Daddy expired auctions.

Their explanation was that they have every right to extend an auction, before or after it ends.

in other words, if i manage to raise $5 above the winning bid within a week or so, the auction is mine.

Simply put, Godaddy is as shady and slimy as they come. I'm looking into other registrars to move my 150 or so names to.

Yeah, no kidding. I won the auction for $3470, and to win it again the next day, I'd have to bid well above $4150 to have any chance of securing it. That is $680 just to try.

so GD auctions were having problems yesterday and they didn't email everyone who made a bid? There are two bidders in this thread so far who ran into problems and neither of them received a notification from GoDaddy about the issues and extensions?

I agree with DomainBlend here, did you guys receive the winning confirmation emails? If so, I would hold onto that and start making phone calls :)

Alas, no emails from Godaddy of any kind.

I agree, it is egregious but you have to move on. At least you didn't lose any money which you can use for other bids. Not necessarily on GoDaddy, because I can understand your frustration with them and may not want to use them any more. I don't usually defend much about GoDaddy, but with the major glitch they were experiencing, they would have had lots of complaints if they'd allowed the winning bids to stand. Besides, they make more money by extending the bids for a day :) And it's fair for all bidders except for the winners who ultimately lose the auctions. But if the glitch affected the bidding, then it is fair to extend the auction. They probably could not go into micro-management and look at every auction individually to decide if the glitch affected that auction or not. So as I said, you saved your money for another day, and you should move past something which you cannot affect the outcome of.
