How exactly do bids work? I was in an auction for a domain with 6 bidders and at least 1 recognizable (to me) very big player. 5 bidders opening bid was $69, and 1 was $70. Because I don't live in the US, I knew I wouldn't be awake when the auction closed. So with 17 hours to go, I placed a proxy bid for $110. (I never really expected to win the domain at that price). So mine was the highest bid at $80. $10 more than the previous high bid of $70. So I assumed these were $10 bid increments. I won the domain at $90. How can that be if bid increments are $10? Or is it possible to place a bid at $85, and my proxy topped that at $90? Or did somebody bid $90 and I was the first to bid? I'm confused.
