Hey Folks

So I was wondering...

Is it just me or is it highly annoying when a single member insists on flooding the forum with new posts one after the other by bumping all their threads at more or less the same time?

I have seen this happen constantly, when you go onto the "new posts" area all you see is one members posts dominating the entire first page and pushing other posts down or to the next page....

I mean 2 or 3 posts is okay but when a member floods the page with 8 or 9 posts sometimes even more, IMO it's rather inconsiderate...

Are these sales threads ? Members who are business members could have 10 open threads and want to use their 24 hour bump.

I find it annoying.

While were on the topic of annoying flooding, I find it annoying when viewing pages and pages of likes for comments in the welcome new users section via viewing activity It seems to be a thing to like every post anytime somebody comments on a new member joining. Usually its 10+ comments for a simple welcome to NP.

Some people have been bumping threads for 6 months, if your domain doesn't sell after a month, time to close the thread, this site moves to fast to be cluttered with jargon.

Yep, these are all sales threads. That exactly whats happening, basically bumping all 10 threads more or less the same time for their 24 bump.. which ends up with the users posts dominating the new post area.

I understand what you are saying, but Business members pay for the right to have 10 listings and they are within the rules to bump them at the same time. The strategy is to dominate the sales thread listing and increase visibility for the amount of time their listings stay on the front page.

I have never read Namepros from the new posts section so I have never really had issue with the process. I only look at certain sections and want to avoid anything that's off topic so new posts would never be my route to search.

@Eric Lyon could weigh in, but I don't think business members who pay for membership are going to have their privileges changed.

I totally understand what you mean mate, I will also be upgrading my account to a business account soon. The 10 listing privileged is great and I'm not at all suggesting that they change those privileges.

I was just highlighting that I think it's inconsiderate to bombard the news posts area with 10 consecutive posts. It dominates the section and also pushes other members posts down to the next page... just my personal opinion though, I wanted to basically see if it was just me that felt that way or if other members also find it annoying... :)

I am agreeing with you it's annoying from the new post perspective, I understand the strategy from say 10 listings in auctions, but there are so many ways to view the forum that others get mixed up in stuff they don't want to see or appreciate. It's a delicate balance.

Maybe Eric could make it that sales posts don't show when looking from new posts. That could be a solution.

That could be a solution but then that would also raise the issue of the sales threads getting less exposure if they dont show in the new posts section....lol what to do, what to do...it's definitely a delicate balance like you said :)

Perhaps maybe a small time window, like a 1 or 2 minute interval between posting/bumping your own sales thread. This would at least create a break in the posts..so that there is no stream of 10 continuous posts...?

OP it is beyond irritating and in my opinion shows the seller is absolutely desperate to sell as many names as possible which puts me and i'm sure other potential buyers off (even if some names are actually decent and have some end user potential.) Some of these people bumping a ton of sales threads at the same time are the same people bragging about huge end user sales which I highly doubt as it's not the way successful domainers act.

Anyway back to the point, I am blocking more and more of these users, I suggest you consider doing the same, it helps :)

Hhahahaha... I'm definitely considering going the blocking route as well.

Sometimes I feel like blocking but then I think that person might post the domain that I am looking for or a deal to sweet to turn down...just the way that I think

Yeah dude, I know what you mean...lol. This is why I'm also reluctant to block people in a hurry....

There is a guy on here that has like 10 listings for seperate single letter .COMPANY GTLD's, doesn't even bother telling people about $500 renewals, has been bumping them for 2 months, so you see 10 of these random letters every so often in a row just spam the front page.

These people need liquidity in non annoyed buyers to fund their business accounts, two way street.

We are working on ways to improve this, but as you've noticed, we have to find the right balance.

We created an add-on a while back that offered an option to hide/unhide marketplace/appraisal posts from New Posts, but at the time, we decided that might not be the best solution.

I've noticed this pretty heavily in the Brandable Marketplace. There are 2 users who have been dominating pretty heavily over there. There have also been a lot of clearly non-brandable domains that were showing up in there for awhile, stuff like 0e7n.net or maybe just long multi-keyword pluralized EMDs that really can't be called brandable. I encourage people to report glaring non-brandable domains the Brandable Marketplace. Maybe the sellers don't really understand how to classify their names.

But anyway, if dominating a niche marketplace is kind of a benefit of being a business member, then I can understand NamePros has to try and make their money somehow. I think that it is suggested by NP that sellers consolidate listings where they can but it is not an outright rule.

I wonder if the OP was bugged by the New Posts section or by the effect of this on specific marketplace sections? @deez007 maybe you could clarify?

One thing that might be a little solution would be to at least have more posts (twice as many?) show up on each page.

Yep, I was referring to New post section initially but you are also spot on about the effect it has on specific marketplaces ....it's probably even worse on a specific market place because the post frequency is slower and chances are the "spammers" posts will stay there for longer...

I also find it very frustrating when I have just used my one daily bump allowed for my auction and it is only visible for one minute before all the new posts are pushed off by one member's multiple new posts. Is it possible to have multiple auctions by the same member to be consolidated into a single listing in the new posts section?

Another thing I find really annoying is when I see more than one new posts that I want to view but after I have viewed one of them, the others are already replaced by newer posts and I have to hunt to find the other ones I wanted to see because they are often several pages back according to when they were originally posted instead of the more recent reply to the post. It would be nice to be able to mark them as important until I have read them and unmark them.

When NP introduces the "block thread" feature this problem will be solved.
