heres a idea for you... quite a good one i tihnk... well should i start it now and stop going ...

ok here it is...
You could start a site where people can make a protfolio hosted on your site. Like a blog hosting service but for portfolios. I think that this idea might work. I would try i myself but i do not have the time nor knowledge. If someone did this it would be quite interesting to see where it goes. And if it makes you millions then i should never of written this post and im going to jump of a very large cliff.

thats great idea.. but if i feel that if people are good enough to make a protfolio, that they could design there own and not use any templates /hosting. I have seen many of these tho

Actually, that could work better than your own portfolio. You could upload all of your images, and post all of your websites, then people could vote on your stuff, then it would show the top designers on the home page, and the top logos or whatever. It'd be like a Web Design directory, except you could find a designer for EXACTLY you want done.

it would be a dircetory but better, They could have anything online. They would also be reciving free advertising. It means people can look at their example work all on one site. Im sure people would use it though.

Honestly, I find this project interesting. I had thought about doing such a thing a few weeks back but got sidetracked.

I would be willing to assist in anything except money, I dont have to much time but can add something.

I code : HTML/CSS/Javascript/JSP/ASP - expert
Database experiance : MySql/MSSql/oracle - advanced
Design Experiance : Photoshop CS - advanced

I also have a dedicated windows server, only using about 1/10 of its capasity. Can host php/asp/perl/cgi/jsp scripts. Anyone puting scripts on this server however better know what they are doing, as I dont like bad unoptimized code.

I cant do much as I have like 5 projects on the go, but if you need me I am here.

If this is going to pass, I suggest a plan... Name all people contributing, what they can/will do, Name all things that need to be done and check them off as the team does them.

PS - I am a profectionist, If this site does come to pass and I am hosting it has to be good. I can design/code a top notch template in a day. I will remodel things to work properly if I have to.

ok well here we go,

the plan:
first stage get some coding done. We need a page for them to register, login, forget password, and of course the actual portfollio with all the interchangeable stuff. If you need more detail then i will post but im sure you can presume you know what im getting at.

then we need the website design and some designs of preset portfolios people can have. i Can do that.

we also need some serious advertising.

well not really. The only thing similar is that deviant allows you to post graphics. But this will have a more professional look and also be a whole portfolio. It will also be easy to navigate and each thing will be a whole site on its own. It will not be so friendly if you know what i mean. There will not really be the community aspect of it asmuch.
