It does seem disturbing that they are openly promoting that they will be searching the content of everyone's emails.

Email is certainly not the most secure medium but this seems like a flagrant disregard of privacy.

I wonder if hotmail and yahoo mail do the same?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a backlash from the privacy advocates.
