I am looking for some feedback from the people who run active/high traffic forums and what forum software they are using.

I have been considering PhpBB / SMF but would like to gather some insight on possible bugs, problems or other issues that have surfaced while using these with a active forum. Also any insight on other forum software as well.

I am currently using BBPress which has proved to be unsuitable for my forum and it's users , so time to upgrade!

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you're looking for free software, right now, SMF is your best bet. Once phpBB3 is released, however, it will be another matter entirely.

In overall boards, I would say that Invision is the best, by far.

I would suggest MyBB. It has more features and looks better than phpBB and SMF.

SMF is probably your best choice here. I havent found any problems with it.

I tried MyBB on a very successfull forum a few months past. It was very easy to use and the only major problem I had with it was the problems I had finding addons that were compatible with MyBB.

I havent personally tried any others.

i agree with Horranus
Invision is the best!
but out of the free ones, phpbb3 is very good, but still only a RC.
SMF is also good
