...and then confesses he's been out of touch for the last 9 years ;)

Ok guys, I'm pulling a Rip-Van-Winkle here, flame me if you must...

I'm just dusting off some older domains I've owned for the last several years that have been doing nothing but collecting. It's not that I've totally fallen asleep, but the aftermarket/parking/monetization of domains has largely been ignored by myself.

I've been spending the last couple of weeks playing 'catch-up' ... it is inspiring and amazing to see such a strong and more mature market -- and so much success. I've been doing a lot of reading through domain forums and also of sales/auction reviews -- wow!

So, here I am, I've got about 150 domains - I just parked them at namedrive about a week ago... and while I certainly don't think I own any million dollar names any longer, I do have a few smaller gems: WebNet.com; OnlineAuto.com (&OnlineAutos.com) are, in my opinion my 'best three' ... About a hundred of them are 'web hosting' key word based domains such as hostweek.com, expertwebhost.com, etc.. I also own a few single word .biz domains (ie bicycling.biz, jogging.biz) - and have realized the .biz extension is on about the bottom rung...

What is interesting to me, is the parking results, the top two domains that seem to get the most traffic are the surprising #1: thegascompany.com (also has a 50% click-through ratio! and does 2-3X the views of #2 webnet.com

One of the reasons for my renewed interest in the aftermarket is to potentially outright sell some of my names at onset, and work to monetize the revenue stream and potential of others, and begin getting more active in this market. (We are all here for money, right?) ...ok... and maybe have some fun along the way :)

I guess off the bat, I just wanted to say hello -- and a 'thank you' to the providers of this forum, seems like a great place to get started back... and as well as ask for opinions on 'best path' scenarios for some of my names from the many of you who are enjoying success in this industry.

Thank you!
-KB

Welcome to Namepros :)

I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.

Now isn't the best time to be selling (with the current conditions of the economy and all), however there really are some excellent buying opportunties out there.

Thanks guys.

I know most markets move in tandem -- but this has got to be better than stocks or real estate. ;)

Justin, NameBio.com is a very nice site -- one I hadn't yet come across. Nice Work! ... I think it would be a nice feature to be able to sort search results by price -- I like the range tools, but a sort option would be a perk. [edit: nm, I just saw the 'order' tab ... not what I thought at first, but got it!]

I have a question - there are several auction sites, and I've submitted a few domains to a couple of them such as sedo and ricklatona and moniker -- but have been turned down or not yet heard back -- what do you think is the easiest to get listed/best exposure auction site?

KB,

Well, there are a few things that really need to be addressed. For instance, the quality of the domain names in your portfolio. Dont get me wrong, OnlineAutos.com isnt bad, but its not in the same league as Autos.com. Sometimes being patient is part of the game until the right buyer comes along, you also must be willing to consider realistic pricing on your domain names.

Thanks for your comments on NameBio, im glad you like it.

off DnJournal

Monte Cahn is the real Six Million Dollar Man. Actually he has done more business than that โ€“ we just got tired of counting. Cahn was the lead partner in brokering the industryโ€™s first one million dollar sale when his firm, HitDomains.com (now DomainSystems.com) helped broker the sale of WallStreet.com for $1.03 million in 1999.

The record didnโ€™t stand for long though. Cahn topped himself just months later with the $2.2 million dollar sale of Autos.com to CarsDirect.com.

It was the biggest cash transaction in domain name history at the time and many say those two deals triggered the buying frenzy that followed (and continued until a price meltdown finally hit the business).

Hmmm, so you helped start all this off  .... looks like your sale helped make quiet a few people millions of dollars richer :lala: (but not me as I'm a johny come lately)

Welcome back :)

Yes, Monte (then of HitDomains.com) helped broker the autos.com deal back at the end 1999 -- he did a fantastic job of helping put together the deal and connecting w/ potential buyers -- it was going to be an auction, but I decided to throw the auction when the $2.2M cash offer was received (there actually was a 2nd company making $1M+ offers asking to avoid auction at the same time...)... and the rest is history -- and I agree it was a springboard of more success for a lot of us... (and the 'all cash' record held for a couple years...) and, Monte is the 'six million dollar domain man' -- I spoke to him last week as I was starting my research, and he has truly achieved an extraordinary level of success -- now CEO of moniker.com and a whole bunch of other stuff... my hat goes off to him.

... like I said up front, I know I don't have any million dollar domains any more, and my portfolio is nothing too special, but it's better than nothing to get back started -- I posted some of my top domains already... many I own are admittedly pure junk... but I don't mind sharing. Here is the list: http://216.137.144.4/db/

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks for all the kind welcomes!

sorry to hear you dont own any million dollar names anymore

now worries ... I'm not dead yet ... plus, seeing how only about 40 domains of the 100,000,000+ registered even topped $1M in cost, I'm thankful to have at least have a piece of the %0.00004 history :)

Cheers! -KB
