Today is the five year anniversary of the craziest forum in the domaining industry. The Dot TV sub forum.

A lot has changed over the last year,

No more premium pricing for renewals on registrations after March 18,2010.

Great pricing from the likes of Name.com $10.99a year, along with Dynadot and Domain Monster.

A successful Sedo auction that had a name sell for xxx,xxx (Business.tv)

Good to see a bunch of new people like, Manos,TJ,Digitalfog,BlackJack21,MonteChristos,ixex and many more.

Domainer of the year goes to RPK. The creation of Parked.tv has given people focused on .tv a better presentation piece for their .tv domains. Richard also had a successful year buying and selling .tv.

Salesman of the year Jimbo, Great year.

Hall of Fame inductee for 2010 John TV. The best .tv domainer I have known has been a driving force year in and year out and with his sale of RT.tv solidified his status in .tv.

Thanks for all the veterans who have made this place worthwhile.

And to John, Jean Francois, Lance, Ian and .mike thanks for having the interest in the extension that got Rj and I to create this place. Its been a longgggggggggggggggggggg five years.

Thank you to RJ for the support over the years.
Good luck to everyone going forward.

Raymond, your voice from the trenches on being selective and strategic about regging is sage and welcome reminder that jumping head first without looking is rarely a good first step into any new venture. :)

Video is big and will get bigger on the web with tv convergence is obviously not a strategy – it’s merely an impetus. Also as a newbie I can see here on the forum many established players lightening their load of .tv names so that’s something to be cognizant off straight away – that huge portfolios are not being amassed rather there seems to be a flight to quality.

Interestingly, there’s a current post here on the forum by discovernow called “The Top 10 .tv to have”. I wondered what you made of those selections/ aspirations. Are the generics/categories the places the more experienced players are gravitating to? Isn’t that a space that will be further diluted with new extensions being made available?

A fine gentlemen protégé of yours handed me the reigns to tourists.tv and another senior person here handed over matrimonials.tv . While I have clear vision of the potential functionality/features that these sites should offer I have no idea of cost of implementation. Chasing quality is expensive, building best in class websites are expensive. To get to a place where you are comfortable making those kind of business decisions will take some travelling and so for those of us not backed by venture capital a graduated lower risk/ lower gain road is perhaps the best policy. Getting your views on tactical approaches given current market dynamics and future developments in both domaining ( new domain extensions) and technology would be most appreciated in helping us find a .tv sweet spot - coming a cropper at the first round of 200 renewals in this economy doesn’t bear thinking about. Are there any particular blogs / threads you can recommend for domaining 101 relating to .tv, inside or outside of this forum; so far I’ve not ventured outside of this namepros subforum?

Thank you! Just had a quick look around over there and saw plenty of familiar avatars/usernames. Very cool.

Congrats to everyone, great job Ray! Five years is a long time, but so worth it.

I was a fringe player in .tv till recently, now I'm glad I participated when I did, recent acquisitions are game changers for me, as I'm sure they are for others as well.

Good luck to all .tv-ers, old and new, am sure this extension is going places now, cheers!

Allthings.tv has certainly become a nice forum and Kevin and Ammudamus have done great job to provide another place for .tv.

...it most certainly is a nice adjunct for the extension and complements the namepros .tv forum as such.

Namepros, of course, also has the unique benefit of the now famous and rather quite active .tv marketplace which has been gaining in demand and popularity.

We acknowledge with gratitude and appreciation the decision of Namepros five short(long?)years ago to open up the .tv forum and we will continue to actively use it for the benefit of all wishing to learn from as well as share their experiences of the extension.

Thank you, Namepros, for manifesting your faith and confidence in an extension that is now blossoming into the extension that it was meant to be!

Thanks to all of the positive .TV'ers for keeping this subforum alive and to Ray for creating this magical little place on the net. Cheers.

I think I may already be sufficiently ‘exuberated’ but I’m itching to ask, and if anyone can can share : what are some of highlight/ biggest .tv name ( no content) sales made within this forum in these 1st 5 years. Am I right in thinking that this would not necessarily appear in the dnjournal sales listings?

TJ

There were hardly ANY sales in the marketplace here of any note until quite recently.

This area was always the place of last resort. And rightly so. It was a place where people could get back (mainly) what they had spent on names that had not sold to endusers.

I know I picked up US.tv here and did a number of four-figure sales before 2010, but most deals were very private.

I'm sure others have better memories of big sales in the past five years.
