FishingPole.com has become one of the more surprising additions to the list of top yearly domain name sales.
Raising $58,900 at the recent Moniker auction, the generic domain name claimed seventh place in the Domain Name Journal top 50 sales for the week October 29th- November 4th.
Generic domain names fetching high auction prices are nothing new, but the success of the sale, despite the niche product in question, proved the attraction of any address capturing its sector-specific word.
Domain name blog InsideDomaining highlighted the shrewdness of investing in addresses like FishingPole.com which made the sector keyword their own.
"Better to own the keyword generic domain name and reap the rewards of type-in traffic for a lifetime as opposed to paying for those keywords over and over again," said the site.
FishingPole.com surprised many with its asking price, but could not rival fellow Moniker-auctioned generic domain name Cowboys.com, which tabled a $370,000 sale.
