Races.com raised as much as $75,000 at domain name auction this week, adding to the impressive performances of generic domain names at aggregator Moniker's Miami sell-off.
Buyers flocked to product specific web addresses like Computer.com and Investment.com, with Races.com not reaching the million dollar heights of Computer.com but still tabling a considerable sale.
Monte Cahn, chief executive of Moniker, highlighted the message behind the big money sales of top site addresses – chief among them generic domain names - at the Miami auction.
"The success of the live auctions is proof that the premium domain market will continue to grow and that businesses understand the importance of premium domains to their business.
"The better businesses tend to own great domains that are developed in a way that helps brand the company as an industry leader and optimise the amount of traffic they drive to their sites," Mr Cahn added.
Domain name selling can bring large rewards for those who pass on quality product-specific names to avid purchasers, while for buyers, top domain names represent a possible springboard for success.
