Top generic domain name Invention.com needed no great scientific innovation to conjure its own sale, commanding half a million dollars from eager buyers.
The $500,000 sale was part of Domain Roundtable's (DRT) recent live auction, with Invention.com proving the equal most lucrative domain name on sale.
Preventing the moniker from claiming outright top spot were a pair of equally attractive generic domain names, Rebate.com and Rebates.com, which together bagged a $1 million sale.
Also on level pegging with the rebate-related sites, Invention.com's big money sale sent it to joint 11th place in the Domain Name Journal listings of yearly sales.
Fetching half a million dollars is a mark of the inherent appeal of product-specific sites, with those wishing to showcase an invention, or to check out those of others, likely to come upon the site and boost its hit appeal.
Sites ranking above the DRT recent sales on the Domain Name Journal yearly rankings were predominantly other generic domain names – including Seniors.com and Scores.com.
