Hey Guy's,

Just wanted to say it is possible to get a First Page Ranking with a new domain, I bought and set up TwilightDvds.com

I only got the name on the 3rd Of March hand reg.

Put up a very simple site still working on updating it with pics and links but I was shocked to see that we are already on the First Page of Google in less than one week.

Check it out for yourself if you want.

What I am wondering is has anyone else had the same success?

My only concern is can I keep this place?

I not an SEO expert so I dont know if I can?

What do you guys think I should do with the site?

That's the power of strong keywords in a domain and Google will give you preference.

I see you as #9 result without quotes. Good job. Get into top 3 though. That's where bread and butter are.

How did you find out how often those two keywords were searched for together? Is that Estibot or something?

I've got you at position 6 - I'm in Vancouver .

What's really interesting is that I get TwilightDvds dot co dot uk at position 10. Maybe there are other cctlds available and we can dominate the 1st page.

MUAHAHAHAHA!!

Nice job with the quick ranking! Although SEO may not help you to keep up that rate, it can definitely help.

Hi, I am curious about something as I've found a way I'd like to try and test this for myself on something. Just as a learning experience.

My question is this, though. When I run 'twilight dvds' and 'twilight dvd' through this tool: web5 Check Traffic - Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 01:58:13

I get the 'twilight dvd' one as being the one with all the traffic, and 'twilight dvds' as no search queries. Does this matter? Are you getting any significant traffic? Does the 's' have that much a difference or do you still show up?

Reason I'm asking, I've found a site I'd like to purchase. But it's the same situation, just different names. For example, 'recent fights' is the one with all the search queries, but 'recent fight' has an open .com I'd like to take, but seems to have no search queries compared to the plural. Will I still show up for traffic using 'recent fight' with recentfight.com when there are 8mil searches a day or whatever for 'recent fights.'

Anyone who can help the newb, it'd be great! If you're just unsure and want me to grab it so we can see how it works out with a little original content or whatever, I'm game for that too. It's just a little niche, but sites seem to be getting between 20k and 100k visitors a month, so that's okayish I suppose. Not something I'm crazy about, but this thread and the topic starter got my mind traveling this path, haha.

Those really aren't the names I'm using of course... Just as an example. Thanks!

These are the stats on yours from this site:

twilight dvd Activity (Estimated): 4,106,701 web-wide search engine queries per day
twilight dvds Activity (Estimated): 1 web-wide search engine queries per day

Mine is the same, but reversed, with 8mil searches. And I can get the singular. The plural with all the searches is taken by a spammy looking site with nothing relevant. So does that give me a shot? I hope I explained this well enough to get a response!

I got you ranked #9, page 1.

Pretty good job man.. I think it's easy to get ranked well for a "specific keyword" if you domain name is "specific keyword".com. Now you just have to keep the rank.

You are #7 for "twilight dvds" (minus the quotes) here in Japan.
I know the feeling. That is a magic moment in domains, when a little one or two page site jumps to the top on its own, with no backlinks.

But that's the time to get to work. As others have said here, it will slip into oblivion if you just let it sit there. Take your head start and run (don't walk) with it.

I see on Page 2 now. By the way, I have had the same kind of success as well with my domain

LoungeChairCushions.net ( Yeah, a .net )

Search for " Lounge Chair Cushions "

My site is a 1 page site .. and ranks ABOVE the .com version.

Check it out guys :)

As of today, I'm seeing you in #10. But as nielsencl said:

I recommend doing keyword research, using as many of the keywords and phrases as possible all through the site, and pay less attention to rankings and more to your stats that show how much traffic you are getting.

I'm going to add pay more attention to how well your site is CONVERTING than to your rankings OR your traffic. If you only get 20 visitors / day and earn an avg. of $5.00 per conversion at a conversion rate of 10% you're doing twice as well as the person who gets 200 visitors / day, bringing in that same $5.00 per conversion at a rate of 0.5%.

Hey robfer, thanks so much. For some reason your website made me understand better this whole domain name game... I put up two basic sites and got on the first page of Google with both, for 'cheap home heating' and 'recent ufo sighting.'

Great post here!
