A few minutes ago I registered an .info-domain at name.com for $2.99.
(Free whois on/off in the cp).
I later saw that their renewal cost is 7.88. If I had registered for two years
right on, the cost would have been, or is, 8.76 (compared to 2.99 + 7.88 = 10.87). Very well, a 2 dollar difference. But maybe the best investment to register for 2 years is if you plan to do a minisite (like I do, with adsense).
Google probably gives better ranking for domains with more than one year registration (giving a serious user a deserved trust from the beginning). In that sense, it must be well worth that little extra money, yes little money. Just slightly better ranking could increase a yearly earning, as an example from 200 to say 225, who knows.
Do you have any experiences around this?
