Hello again everyone.
I have finally located a domain I wish to be purchasing. It is currently owned by a different person but he wishes to sell it off.

I was curious if the professional's here could Maybe direct me to a step by step or add words of caution so I do not get my money ripped off.
Its going to be costing me over $100 so its discouraging if I do not receive it.

Also furthermore, seeing as this name is something that in an INSTANT would be snapped up upon expiry, Is there a way at the expiry date to keep it mine without a single thought of losing it? I don't understand how this market works fully yet.

Thank you much and a have a great day!

Just set the domain to auto renew once it's yours, even better pay for a renewal of multiple years up front (at the registrar).

As for a secure transaction, use an escrow service like; Escrow.com or Sedo.com

The bigger risk is really with the seller though. Even if you use paypal all you have to do is let paypal know that you didn't get the domain and they'll side with you.

Where are you buying it? Through a third party website (e.g. Sedo or Afternic), or with the owner directly?
You will get more concise answers if you can tell us this.

With regards to dropping, most registrars allow you to 'auto renew', as long as you keep your credit card on file, they'll automatically bill you every year.
You can also sign up to domaintools.com and put your domain on a watch list- then if it does accidently expire you'll get an email alerting you and you can renew before the drop. You get up to 45 days 'grace' to renew your domain after expiry (check your registrars T&Cs, mind- 0 days is technically included in "up to 45 days"). Generally the risk rests with the buyer as the seller will ask for the transfer of funds before letting go of the domain.
For $110, I don't think there's much point in using an Escrow service, so it's in your hands whether you feel the seller is trustworthy or not. A little digging never goes amiss :)

This is how it went,
I asked about information and this is the terms he wants to go upon

sorry to ask so many questions but Im not sure if this is HOW its normally done or not.

Aha, i'll give you the information of the account that is hosted on GoDaddy.com and there you'll find a password that password is required to transfer the domain to another host, i prefer to use GoDaddy since they have alot of features and stuff that might be useful for you.

You can send the money to my Paypal as gift ********@******* once i receive i will give you the information for the GoDaddy account and there you can change nameserver and get the required password for transferring.

You should set up your own godaddy account and have the seller 'push' the domain to your account. You'll provide him with your account number and email address.

There is no need to take over any godaddy accounts.

But if he is dealing with paypal and it gets escalated, paypal always sides with the buyer when it comes to domain sales (at least in my experiences). Paypal is poor at investigating domain sale issues and there are scammers that exploit this.

If you are going to transfer your domain, the company should have accreditations and also nice reputation in the market.

Good luck!
